These drum set legends were common in Modern Drummer magazine and they’re very effective at saving space while giving the player a quick rundown of what is notated.
I’ve tried recreating the idea (see attached file) and can just use a screenshot of the diagram in an image fream in my score, but is there a more intuitive way to do this sort of thing in Dorico? Could it possibly be a flow that is incorporated into a music frame so it scales properly?
Any feedback is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Another question: is there any way to make a border around a slice? I know I can place 4 lines around the music, then create the slice, but I’m wondering if there’s an easier method.
Hi, not directly. Here’s an alternative. I created a new first-page template for drums and added a graphic frame. Graphic frames do not have a border option, so I added a text frame at the same position with the border ticked.
You can save the page template and use it for all your drum parts.
I guess it’s not needed in the score.
Adding to @jesele 's great idea: you can place the empty text frame with border just on the originating music bit before slicing. Then you don’t have to fiddle with overlaying two frames in the main score:
Thank you, both! I ended up doing a white border, first, then black (to separate the staff lines from the border. The result was as follows…and again, thank you for the assistance.
