Hello Dorico users and Dorico Team,
I am looking for computer buying advice in regards to Dorico. I am about to buy one of the new Mac MIni computers. I am going to be working soon on orchestral files as large as 30 minutes or more in length for an upcoming engagement. I need to be able to do quick condensing and other computing intensive tasks on these large, lengthy files. I am finding that lengthy 5 part string orchestra with divisi files or other larger string music flows are slowing down noticeably in response to even some basic note entry tasks using my Intel iMac 2017 i7 with 32 GB RAM.
The question I am asking is whether I need to go for either a Mac Mini with the M4 chip or the M4 pro chip for such higher demand tasks. I know the M4 will be massively faster than my older Intel Mac i7. I may also need to go for the M4 Pro Mac Mini for the greater RAM capacity alone (but I have not decided on that yet).
I am wondering if I will notice a difference of any real significance between the M4 and M4 Pro for tasks such as condensing or anything else of a similar nature. Has the Dorico team themselves tested any of these differences between the chips for their software? I need to know, as may others.
Thank you for your advice and assistance in this matter. If this has already been discussed, please point me to the relevant thread if you can.
Warmest regards, Paul
