When playing back a score in Play or Write mode the volume control of my MacBook Air doesn’t change the volume. Even if I lower the volume all the way to mute it doesn’t change anything.
Check what ‘device’ Dorico is playing back to, under Edit > Device Setup; and compare that with the System Settings.
Thank you! Here’s what I’m seeing. Also, confirming that I do get sound through my laptop but can’t increase/decrease the volume using the laptop controls. LMK what you think.

What if you set Dorico to “MBA Speakers” explicitly?
I wouldn’t change the sample rate, unless you make sure that the Mac Audio devices are on the same sample rate.
Yes, the audio controls work fine outside of Dorico. Are you able to provide some more specifics on how to set Dorico to MBA Speakers explicitly?
Change the setting in Dorico’s Device Setup dialog from “Built-in Audio” to “MacBook Air Speakers”.
