Condensing Mallet Percussion Parts

Hello, I have a score with three Mallet Percussion 1 parts and two Mallet Percussion 2 parts. Each part has two or three instruments. See pics. The original file that was sent to me has the Mallet 1 part condensed and the Mallet 2 part condensed.

Here is the original file showing condensed/combined Mallet 1 and Mallet 2 parts:

When I import the same piece into my template this is what I get:

I have condensing turned on but the Mallets will not condense. I have even set up custom condensing groups with the mallets but they still do not condense. I need them to condense like the first example.

What am I missing? I can provide a snippet of the file if that helps.

Are the players supposed to play their instrument simultaneously or are you looking at instrument changes for the players (in Layout Options)?

Just to clarify the wording: “Condensing” and “instrument changes” are two distinct different things in Dorico. Of course, both put multiple $things on one staff, but:

  • Instrument changes assemble multiple instruments of one player
  • Condensing assembles content from multiple players.

Just so people know the technical terms when searching the manual :wink:
