I’m honestly out of options… I have tried all combinations, placements, and still… Dorico is dividing the string parts in the second system/page and not in the first system/page.
Why is this working for the cellos and not for the violins?
I even tried a manual condensing to get two staves. No improvement.
The manual even says that Dorico will do whatever the user specifies in manual condensing and encourages to be careful! But here it is not doing that.
Thinking of a calculation glitch, I followed a previous advice and toggled OFF/ON condensing, which indeed created a different result in the second page. Then, I erased the Condensing Change and put it back via Undo, and I got back to the above situation.
I tried to remove all changes and to choose other positions for the CC, but no luck. This first page just doesn’t want to divide those staves…
Sometimes I wonder if one should just ignore this and use multiple staves and go manual!
3rd movement, currently pages 44-45 and already worked around somehow, don’t even remember how. Sometimes it’s a matter of rage-clicking all the options and it works …
Just kidding… I inserted a “No condensing” CC at the start of the system.
For some reason inserting the same at the right spot had no effect.
Hmm… In the version of the file I have, the violins are divisi at the start of the system. Anyway, it sounds like you’ve managed to sort it out, so that’s the important thing.
That’s very frustrating for me, since it happened several times that I tried “X”, it didn’t work, came here to look for help, received instruction to do “X”, tried again and it worked.
Just this morning something with condensing didn’t work, I used Cmd-Tab to switch to Safari, started writing a report, Cmd-Tab back to Dorico to take a screenshot and the issue was not there … and yes, I took a break after that!
