Forgive me if this has been brought up previously, I’ve looked through the posts and most of them are about Global Layers. I’m good with that part, I’m using ‘shared’ instruments. But I can’t get my head around creating and using Global Stacks. Can someone explain it to me like I’m a three year old please?
I have one stack, which is the input for my vocal mic on ‘stereo in 1 (L)’ of my audio interface, along with some sends and inserts (EQ, compressor etc). I’ve been duplicating parts for each song. But am I right in thinking that each new (duplicated) part creates a new stack too? I get the extra load on my CPU if this is the case, plus extra load time when the project opens.
So… how do I create a global stack please??? All I can see is how to create a global part. But that part will then pertain to the song it is in, no? If I delete that song (in the instance of a new setlist etc), will that global part not be gone??? Or am I missing something blatently obvious here? I thought global meant independant of anything, for example, part of the actual project, not a song.
Like I say, can someone please explain this whole thing to me like I’m a three year old? lol
Global Stack is permanent. But you need to create Global Stack for. Need to create a “PART / Create Global Part”. Make it active, click +STACK.
that will remain permanent whatever you do.
Now I’m even more confused! haha.
I think I understand… so assign an automation track to the stack, then write automation to turn off individual plugin inserts and sends, yes?
Ah yes, I see it now. I was clicking on the input and output of the actual track, not it’s parameters. I’ve found the relevant parameters now. So, do I have to create an automation track for every parameter (Insert 1 off, insert 2 off etc)? Or can I create multiple data lanes in the same automation track? Excuse my silly questions, I’m a Cubase user. VST Live is set out quite differently.
can create, set the required cc lane on the left bottom (you cant see them together… e.g. in cubase I have 3 velocity/modulation/articulation in cubase, but in VSTLive you can see 1 selected.
Yes, I can see it now. I have to create a data holder (if that’s the correct term) on the actual project window. Then I can see all the relevent parameters within that, similar to the DMX channels. To be honest, once I get used to this way of automating, it’ll be much better, rather than creating parts for changes.
One more thing…
If I create global layers (for instance, Kontakt), will I be able to automate the same data? I need to change MIDI channel, transpose etc. Can this be done in the same way?
