Connection problem UR44 to TV

Hello everyone,

So, straight to it : I have a windows 10 PC, been using it with Cubase 10.5 pro since 2020, and UR44 connected to it. Previously, I connected my UR44 to two speakers and everything was fine.

Recently I have moved house and now have a TV, and only one electric outlet that is supporting the PC, the TV, the UR44, and my wifi box (so, I cant add the speakers as it would be too much charge and the current would blow). So I figured : connect the stereo output of UR44 to the TV and everything will be fine.

It doesn’t work. I have the right cables for it. Once I’m on cubase, the inputs are working (midi and stereo / mono entries). And when I put the audio connection as “general low system…” it comes out through the TV, as it’s the laptop that handles it. However, once i put the audio connection as UR44, no more sound. Got the output buses connected and all, got the UR44 connected to the pc (as it receives input), but just can’t seem to get the audio out connection to work.

Any ideas ?

I guess that isn’t a Cubase problem. What does TV mean in this regard?
Has it an audio input not associated with a picture source?

Usually, if you switch the input on the TV, the audio source is embedded in the picture signal. But that isn’t the case with the UR44.

A normal AC outlet can easily handle about 1500W. You can confirm this by plugging a hair dryer.
I can’t imagine the devices you describe exceeding half of that capacity, so just use a power bar to add the AC plugs you need for your speakers.
Even if your TV is a huge 10yr-old plasma screen (the most power hungry models), and even cranking up the volume, you’ll still be fine.

TV as in a literal TV,

The audio source is embedded in the picture signal, and it has L/R but it does not say whether they are outputs or inputs.

I did some maths to check what Y-D said about the power of an AC outlet, and turns out I am indeed veeeery far away from being at max capacity, so I bought a power bar and connected the speakers…

Thanks for the help everyone !

Sending pictures to the TV, and the TV is sending audio back? Hell no.

That really depends on where you are… Germany 230V @ 16A (3680 W), UK 230V @ 13A (2990 W), U.S. 120V @ 15A (1800 W)

If you want to be complete about this, good practice is to derate house breakers to about 80% of their nominal values, for many reasons irrelevant to this forum.

My point anyway was that you can safely use a set of active monitors in this situation and do not need to complicate life routing audio to your TV to end up with poor quality sound anyway. (to say the least!!)
