Issue:
Cubase Pro 10 will crash (without an error message; sudden closing).
Description:
On 9/13/2019 while using Cubase Pro 10 a consistent and repeatable crash occurs while handling a large project. It seems to be specific to a singular large project, but what is strange is that I am not given a fatal error message or any sort of error to base what is happening on. The error occurs when I swiftly navigate the project (clicking around +/- 100 seconds) or save while playing audio. A quick google search did not specify where I should search for crash dump files; but if they are located under Documents/Steinberg/CrashDumps there is only a singular file named “Cubase 9.5.30.192 64bit 2018.7.19 9.20.dmp” which looks to refer to a previous version of Cuabse on a non-repeatable scenario. If anywhere else may provide, or if general you need, additional information please let me know. Below you can find my hardware for reference:
Hardware (Please note all programs are being ran @ x64 bit):
OS: Windows 10
Audio I/O: Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6
CPU: Ryzen Threadripper 1950X 16 Core Processor @ 3.99 GHz
Memory: Corsair Vengence (8x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 Dram @3200 (Model CMW64GX4M8C3200C16)
GPU: Nvidia ECGA GeForce RTX 2080 Black Edition
Motherboard: Gigabyte x399 AORUS Gaming 7 sTR4 AMD
SSD (Sole drive for installation & VST): Samsung 860 EVO 1TB
Active VST in use at time of crash: BFD3; Xpand!2; HALion Sonic
Thank you in advance for any help I receive.
Hi,
Make sure you are using the latest Cubase 10.0.40 update, please.
Yes, Documents/Steinberg/Crash Dumps is the right folder.
If it’s still crashing and you can’t see any crash dump, use Microsoft ProcDump utility to generate a crash dump file, please.
So I created a dump file, but it is 6 gigs and says too large to upload here. the summary of what is shown is:
[16:27:13] Exception: E06D7363.?AVDsmException@DriverSetting@@
[16:27:13] Exception: E06D7363.?AVDsmException@DriverSetting@@
[16:27:14] Exception: 80000003.BREAKPOINT
[16:27:14] Exception: C0000374
[16:27:14] Unhandled: C0000374
[16:27:14] Dump 1 initiated: C:\Users\rky76\Desktop\Cubase10.exe_191009_162714.dmp
[16:27:14] Dump 1 writing: Estimated dump file size is 6682 MB.
[16:27:40] Dump 1 complete: 6683 MB written in 26.7 seconds
[16:27:41] Waiting for dump to complete…
[16:27:42] Dump count reached.
The top line had been repeated several hundred times, and created what i would guess is 50 or so new lines of the same text every time I would save. I was trying to reproduce the crash by saving and clicking around on the timeline, skipping around in the song, both while audio is playing. Both saving while audio is playing and skipping while audio is playing seem to cause this crash. However, only saving created the “Exception: E06D7363.?AVDsmException@DriverSetting@@” each time.
If there’s another way I can upload a large file let me know, otherwise I’ll try to create a dump that returns a smaller file, if possible.
Hi,
Didn’t you find a common dmp file in the common path (Documents/Steinberg/Crash Dumps folder)? This dmp you have created sounds more like a complete memory.
Or did you create it by Microsoft ProcDump utility?
I would like to get either the common Steinberg dmp or the one from ProcDump, please. Then I can resolve it and have a look inside.
Thanks
Martin,
To reiterate, Cubase is not creating a dump file when it crashes; there is a single file that was created for version 9 on 7/19/2018, but nothing created for Cubase 10. I took your initial suggestion and created the dump file via ProcDump, but the file it created was 6 gigs and could not be uploaded here; if you have an alternative way to receive the large file please let me know.
In the mean time I will continue to have ProcDump running and create an alternate dump file that isn’t so large; I will upload it here if I am successful.
Thanks for looking into this.
Hi,
Could you share the 6GB dmp file via Dropbox or similar service, please?
