I’m getting tired of using my mouse to control faders and if possible effects. Therefore I’m looking to get a hardware mixer with motorized faders without spending to much on it. Budget is max 1000 EUR.
I can see there is a lot of mixers out there but I’m worried they’re not compatible with Cubase. I have the Cubase Pro 14 version.
I currently look at:
Behringer X-touch
Icon P-1
Icon Qcon Pro G2 (8 kg?)
Midiplus UP
I have a faderport 16. works as advertised. If I were to buy something new I would go with Softube Console Fader mkiii or the SSL UF-8. Just to clarify these are not mixers, and not the ones you mention either - they are controllers
Currently I think avid makes the best integrated controllers for cubase. However they are out of your budget as new. However used S1 pops up now and then within your budget. All the ones you looking at are using MCU protocol, AVID is different.
some people like the Console 1 from Softube
you can even use old tablet/ipad/even phone
also comes with some cool channel strip fx
ive tried MPC-40 and others in the past
for me, nothing beats the mouse man
maybe choose something with encoders, not pan pots (so they update)
there is a new controller from Novation, Kontrol XL MK3 or something, its looks nice
you need enough knobs to at least do channel stuff like volume and 9 encoder for the eq + on off switches and maybe shift+knob to select different curves
if you are bored, and you are a producer (not mixer) you can also buy something like a Minifreak and use that as controller. Its what i have right now.
Plus this synth is a lot of fun.
They are very neat compact controllers. They only problem with ICON is that are not willing to give you technical documentation on the protocol extensions they have added to the MCU protocol. It makes it a lot harder to do a proper driver with cubase midi-remote features. Even if you are not planing to that, other users can not do it for you.
