Convert recorded MIDI back into the Drum machine Editor?

I’ve got a question about Cubase and the drum machine workflow.

I’m loading drum samples onto pads in the drum machine, and I’m triggering them with my MPD18. When I record this, it just shows up as regular MIDI (as expected).

Is there a way to automatically convert that MIDI performance back into the Drum machine Editor?

Basically: I record my drums with the MPD → Cubase captures normal MIDI → I want that performance to show up properly inside the Drum machine Editor

Is this possible? Or do I need to manually redo it inside the editor?

Thanks in advance!

It’s actually called the Pattern Editor and can be used by any MIDI based Track Type, not just the Drum Machine.

While you can convert a Pattern Event into a MIDI Part, there’s no capability to go the other way. I think there might be a feature request asking for this.

Additionally, the Pattern Editor is the only midi based editor, where you cannot record live input.

Maybe the Drum Editor is helpful for you?
