Hi all,
I wanted to report a reproducible bug I’ve encountered in Cubase on Apple Silicon:
Whenever I press “Empty Trash” in the Pool window, Cubase immediately crashes. This happens:
– On a MacBook Pro M3 Pro (macOS 15.5)
– In Cubase 12.0.70 (ARM native)
– In Cubase 13.0.41 (ARM native)
– Even in Cubase 10.5 (under Rosetta 2)
The crash is the same across all versions, and occurs even in brand-new projects with no 3rd-party plugins. Crash logs show Instruction Abort (Translation Fault) in the main thread.
I’m wondering if others with M1/M2/M3 chips can reproduce this?
Is Steinberg aware of this issue? Any fix planned in Cubase 14?
Thanks!
UPDATE: I noticed, it crashes only after deleting the files which were modified in VariAudio

Hi and welcome to the forum,
There are similar threads on the forum already.
Please, attach the *.ips file.
Mac: macOS Console utility > Crash Reports (or ~user/Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports).
Just as a test, have you tried adding Cubase to “Full Disk Access” as a troubleshooting step?
You can navigate to System Preferences and add the Cubase 13 app with the wee plug sign:
There are other “files and folders” permission settings, but Full Disk Access may help identify the issue if that stops Cubase from crashing.

Hi,
Reported to Steinberg. Thank you.
Not always happens to me. I’m in Sonoma, latest version. M1 Max. ONLY happens in C14.
Works as expected in C13 and 12.
I have installed c14 and c13.
Thank u for your answer, I tried it. Still crashes. Update: I noticed, it crashes only after deleting the files which were modified in VariAudio

Hi Martin, I do the same thing as always: I edit my files, consolidate them again, Ctrl+p (open the pool), delete unused files. And SURPRISE! Cubase crashes. And as always, whenever it feels like it.
The worst part is that both times I lost audio files… and this CAN’T BE!

Since I installed Cubase 14 (after 13) , I don’t have ips. files at all. Though it continues crashing.
Are we going to have to wait another 3 months for this HUGE PROBLEM to be fixed??? Why is v14 such a nightmare for me? Oh my God, I hate working with different versions of Cubase. I’ll have to install v13 again…
