Crashes happen when editing names of track versions

On Cubase 14 Pro version 14.0.31 (latest relevant).

I am doing testing of mics and pre-amps so making numerous track versions for comparison. When I click on the track version name to copy the name, then click on ‘esc’ to leave edit mode, Cubase simply closes without any crash/error report, until I open Cubase then the usual crash window appears allowing me to send the crash report.

This crash on ‘esc has happened a few times but not every time.

Here is the .dmp file.

Hi,

Reported to Steinberg. Thank you.

Hi,

Unfortunately, so far, no one from Steinberg has been able to replicate your issue. Is any clipboard manager software involved by any chance?

  • Do you use Rename Trackversion via double-click directly on the Track-Name (right side) in Tracklist or
  • via Rename at Trackversion Popup or
  • in Inspector Track Versions Section?
  • Do you press Escape to simply leave the name edit mode without having something changed?

Hi Martin,

Many thanks for trying to replicate the crash scenario.
I have just tried myself now but have unable to replicate it too.
I seem to remember that it was on pressing ‘esc’ once I’ve copied the version name in the inspector window (yes, after double clocking to highlight/edit the name).

I don’t use any clipboard manager software, just purely copy/paste in Windows 11 Pro.

It has happened when I have pressed ‘esc’ without having changed the version name because I am copy/pasting to the new version then amending the new version slightly (I’m testing various pre-amp settings to compare quality of vocal recordings so have up to 20 track versions).

I just tried ‘esc’ without changing the version name and also tried changing the version name but it’s not crashing at the moment.

I shall update this post with more specifics if it happens again.

Thanks again,
Ken
