Crashes when changing the output device / soundcard

I don’t know if other users made the same experience, but I often have to change my audio output device / soundcard in Dorico - sometimes I can listen with my speakers (with integrated soundcard / Nubert speakers), sometimes I need to use headphones…Dorico is the only audio software which is opened. In round about 5 of 10 times when I switch my soundcard, Dorico crashes and I even have to re-start my computer before Dorico re-recognizes my soundcard and is starting up. I have a very powerful machine (Apple M1 Ultra) so that can’t be the problem. Ok Ok - next time I’ll send the crash report…just wondering if anybody on the forum has similar problems with Dorico changing the soundcard.

No need to wait until next time. Just create a Diagnostics and upload it. It contains lots of recent crash data.

There are no crash logs contained within the diagnostics you’ve attached, so I think what must be happening is that the audio engine is hanging/freezing or otherwise becoming unresponsive, and that in turn causes Dorico to become unresponsive.

Looking at the most recent set of diagnostics, it looks as if you tried to change the audio device at 00:02, and the audio engine then hung. However, it looks like the audio engine did become responsive again a while later, around 00:12, but Dorico and the audio engine were no longer communicating by then – you had already force quit Dorico and tried restarting it a couple of times.

If you run into this again, if you find that you need to force quit Dorico, make sure that you also force quit the VST audio engine process via Process Explorer. Then wait a few seconds, and run Dorico again: everything should come back up with no problems.

Thanx a lot Daniel ! What does this mean please? What is 'Process Explorer"?

Apologies, I meant to write Activity Monitor, which is a utility you will find in Applications/Utilities on your Mac.
