Creating cpr file that opens in newer C version

I have Cubase 8.5 pro and Cubase 9 pro. When I click on a .cpr file it automatically opens in Cubase 8.5. This is true even for files that have been opened through Cubase 9, modified, and saved as new files. I’d rather everything opened in Cubase 9. What do I need to do to force my cpr files to open in Cubase 9? Thank you.

You need to tell your OS, which Cubase version to open cpr files with
