Creating Half Dim Symbol from Chord Popover

Using shift Q for the chord symbol popover how do I access a half dim symbol ? I can type G O 7 and get a fully diminished, and if I play and analyse ( G,Bb,D, E) I can get a O with a slash through it to appear …But how do I create that using the shift Q function please

New to Dorico. How do I make a global change to have half-diminished symbol (circle with slash) show, rather than having it show as m7(b5)?

Engraving Options>Chord Symbols. Have fun.

And welcome to the forum.

Welcome!

And, yes, have fun. I love this menu!!!

Make sure you Save as Default down the bottom when you’re done.

I am using the free trial version and am unable to figure out what you’re describing. Do I need to purchase the pro version in order to choose the circle with a slash for a half diminished chord?

Correct, the free version does not include Engraving Options

Actually, it’s a bit more complicated than what Dan says.

If you’re using Dorico SE, which is not a trial version but rather a free version of Dorico (and which does not expire), Dan is correct: Dorico SE does not include access to the Engraving Options dialog, so you cannot customise chord symbols in this way.

However, if you’re using the trial version of Dorico Pro, then you can of course access Engraving Options, as the trial version is completely unrestricted and contains all the features of the software for 60 days.

(For completeness, Dorico Elements, the “middle” product in the product line, does not include the Engraving Options dialog, but does contain a dedicated dialog that contains all of the options for chord symbols from Dorico Pro’s Engraving Options dialog.)

To speed you along in getting the ø symbol …
Library > Engraving Options > Chord Symbols > Chord Quality
Scroll down until you find the options for Half-Diminished.

As you will see, there are a ton of options for chord symbol formatting. You can search within these large dialogs by typing ⌘F (Ctrl+F on Windows) to get a secondary search box.
