Creating Tuplet issue Cubase 14

Hi everyone,

I’m working in Cubase Pro 14, and I’ve programmed a 9:8 tuplet in the Key Editor — it plays back correctly and aligns rhythmically.
However, when I open the same section in the Score Editor, the tuplet is not displayed properly, and the notation is incorrect or overly simplified.

The standard Insert Tuplet options in the Score Editor only allow common ratios (e.g., 3:2, 5:4, etc.), and I don’t see a way to enter 9:8 manually.

I’ve tried:

  • Adjusting Display Quantize (Fixed, 1/32 base)
  • Forcing the tuplet display manually
  • Switching to Note Entry mode
  • Resetting Score Layout and settings

But the tuplet bracket and number (9) still won’t appear correctly.

Is there a way to manually force a 9:8 tuplet display in the Score Editor (even if it’s inserted in the Key Editor), or is this a current limitation of Cubase’s notation engine?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Mikheil,

I’m afraid the Score Editor doesn’t currently offer a way to create any custom tuple ratios beyond the ones offered in the toolbar. This is on our roadmap for a future version.
The underlying notation engine can do those just fine (it’s based on Dorico), but we are missing some infrastructure in the user interface to expose this to users.
