Crescendo on one note

How can I crescendo on one note from p<f?
If I have another note after it, the f will automatically goes to the next note. But I want to Crescendo at the previous note and then start in p in the next note. I cannot figure out a way to do that.
The score looks extremely not professional.

I want to do:

1, the first note: p<f
2, the note after it: p

In dorico, there need 2 notes to put a p<f. Otherwise the f goes to the following note. However, in the performance, most of the time you have to do a crescendo in one note. That is extremely common with strings, wind and percussion. I cannot figure out a way to make it look professional.

Just shorten the p<f using shift-alt-left arrow.

Select the note you want the p<f on, then input p<f via pop-over, and finally - with p<f selected - shorten it with SHIFT+ALT+LEFT-ARROW. It will be shortened according to the grid value.

Enter note input mode (double click or ENTER). Position the caret in the right-most rhythmic position in that bar. SHIFT+D for dynamics and type “f”.

It amazes me how I keep learning new things here even after having used Dorico for 7 years.

I never know this! Thank you so much for your great advice!

shift option left arrow/ right arrow on MacBook

I would also suggest to put a sub. after the second p (since otherwise, depending on the spacing, it could be interpreted as fp by the player):
