Crossgraded to HALion 7. Delete HALion Sonic SE content?

Hi - I have just crossgraded to HALion 7.1, using the Competitive Crossgrade option (to which I was entitled because I own Native Instruments Komplete 1 4 Standard).
I used to have HALion Sonic SE.
I now have a total of 36.2 GB of HALion content on an external SSD.
Can I delete all .vstsound files that include the abbreviation HSSE in their filename? HSSE obviously refers to HALion Sonic SE. I assume that these files are not used by the full version (HALion 7.1). Is that correct?
Please advise.

The Halion Sonic SE Content (now called Sonic Selection) is exclusive to users who have a license for a Steinberg DAW. It can be loaded by both Halion 7 and the free Halion Sonic 7 player.

It includes the following:

  • A selection of cut-down samples from the original Halion Sonic 1 library (hence the name!)
  • Samples from the original Yamaha Motif
  • Most of the “MegaVoices” from the Yamaha Tyros 2, adapted for use with Cubase’s Expression Maps
  • Yamaha S90 ES Piano
  • Sonic Reality “OneSoundz Silver Edition” library
  • “Hybrid” library, which layers some of the content above together
  • Miscellaneous synth presets, made using Halion’s virtual analog synth engine

I would keep this content installed, since all of this (1250+ presets) is just 1.2 GB. Please use the Steinberg Library Manager if you need to uninstall it.

Besides the “Sonic Selection” library, Cubase Pro (and most other Steinberg DAWs) also includes the following libraries for Halion 7/Halion Sonic 7:

  • “Iconica Sketch” orchestral library
  • “Flux” wavetable synth
  • “Trip” virtual analog synth
  • “Verve” upright felt piano

Thanks for this helpful clarification.

Sonic Selection (1.26 GB) is fully installed on my external SSD, as well as Flux, Trip, Verve and Iconica Sketch.

Unfortunately, if I try to load presets for Verve or Iconica Sketch in HALion 7.1, I get the “No License Found” error in Steinberg Activation Manager.
I think this is because I only have a license for Cubase Pro 11, whereas Verve and Iconica Sketch are included in Cubase Pro 12 / 13.

If I upgrade from Cubase Pro 11 to 13, do I get both Verve and Iconica Sketch?

You’ll get both if you upgrade to Cubase 13. You’re right, Verve was introduced with Cubase 12, and Iconica Sketch was introduced with Cubase 13.

The MediaBay database is also now shared between Cubase 13, Halion 7 and Halion Sonic 7, so your ratings will be kept in sync between all 3 applications.

Thanks for clarifying that, too.
