In Engrave mode, I noticed that on one page, four systems are crowded together, while all the other frames have only two systems. I don’t know how this happened. I tried inserting system breaks using , and ., but the systems are not moving. How can I fix this? I want two systems per page, with proper spacing between staves, like all the other pages.
I would make sure that signposts are visible, and check to see if there’s a frame break at the top of the page with the “Wait for next break” property enabled.
You have likely locked things up with some manual adjustments. Also each of those systems are telling you they are over-full (And do you really need those staff labels on every system?)
I would reset everything to whatever your layout options are set to.
Engrave>Staff spacing>Reset Layout
and Engrave>Note Spacing>Reset Layout
Thank you for your comment. I made the frame breaks and system breaks visible and unchecked “Wait for next break.” Now the previously crowded systems are separated. I’m not exactly sure how this happened, but I’m curious why disabling “Wait for next break” worked.
A frame break tells Dorico to start a new frame. “Wait for next” tells Dorico to keep putting music into that frame until it gets to the next frame break. In your case, there was no “next” frame break, so all of the following music got squished into the one frame.
