Since yesterday, Cubase 10 crashes each time after a few seconds. Here is how:
I launch it, everything goes right.
Then, if I make a new project : it crashes each time after a few seconds (I have tried a lot of different pathes for the default folder, everything is the same).
If I open an existing project : after loading it well (I can see all the tracks), it crashes after a few seconds (same for all projects).
Between last time Cubase was all right (+/- 2 weeks ago) and now , I didn’t install any new plugin.
The only change I made on my computer was to disable One Drive and copy all my folders on Google Drive instead. But I didn’t touch to the system files (c:\ProgramFiles…) of course !
I spent all day long yesterday to try to resolve this issue. I tried to repair Cubase (with the inner function), then I tried to de-install and re-install it. Always the same issue.

How are you connected to the internet?
Do you use a VPN?
Which graphics card are you using?
Did you already try to update to the lastest version? If Nvidia, did you use the Studio mode during installation?
What happens when you start Cubase in admin mode? (right click on the icon > Run as Administrator.

I did it, but actually, I had just the possibility to disable the preferences, but not the plugins.
I created a new project in my Documents folder, and it is still crashing.
@Croissant please notice the version. Safe mode is not the same in Cubase 10. You are very helpful here, but it would be worthwhile to research your answers to be sure they are correct.
@vsonnev Make sure you are running the latest version of Cubase 10.
If so, Step 1 in troubleshooting any problem is to hide the prefs folder from Cubase.
Do this by temporarily moving the Cubase 10 prefs folder as well as any others belonging to earlier Cubase installs, to the desktop, .
I see you have an OpenVPN GUI icon.
Please make sure that this is not running. Kill it in the task manager if necessary.
You could also try to disconnect your PC from the internet before launching Cubase. Given the other thread that mentioned VPN/Network as a possible source of the problem.
nah - I could see how you’d read it like that - but I doubt it’s anything more than just not wanting to spend extra time ensuring you aren’t offended… like everything on the internets. In a previous post steve even gives you props.
@Steve : I installed the last update (10.0.60) then I moved the prefs folder on my desktop and I tried again (see video :CrashCubase10-3.mp4 - Google Drive) … always the same problem… (+ a new problem with Padshop license…)
I give up for tonight. I don’t know if you are online during the weekend.
If yes, I continue tomorrow.
If no, I think I am going to reinstall windows and all my applications !!!
But it was not the same at all. That user in the other topic said that when they used their VPN, Cubase crashed.
I suggested they activate LAN access for their VPN because certain functions use the local network, and VPNs block it unless configured not to. Once they made that config change, their problem was solved, as is noted in the OP of that topic. I did not suggest they turn of the VPN, or disconnect from the Internet.
It’s important that we, as forum users provide accurate information to people. This concerns me as a forum moderator.
It happened to me also. I had to turn OFF the auto save function and everything worked just fine.
It was set to 5 Minutes.
I am using Cubase 12 Pro now with auto save on and no plroblems.
Hope this helps.
