I was hoping somebody could shed some light on this and help me solve this issue.
So, I have a section for trombones with a part I am interested in copying to another channel. There is nothing before or after the part I want to cut, copy, and paste.
I grabbed the scissors, cut the part, and pasted it on the channel I wanted the part to go to. When I got to the edit window of that small part I cut, I could see notes before (white notes) and after the part, notes that didn’t exist on the original part where I cut the short few bars from.
Even worse, when I glued this new copied part, all the notes that appeared white, before and after the part I was interested in copying, these white notes became active and appeared on the main part making a complete mess of things.
The same happens when I use the Range tool and I highlight the part I am interested in, grab and copy the said bit to the new part I am interested in integrating it to.
The only time this doesn’t happen is if I use the Range tool, highlight, and then split (from the Range tools function).
How can I avoid this from happening?
I think selecting and copying via the Range tool is far easier, but this function seems to copy some ghost notes that I probably worked on far back in the project and have since deleted. Or something to that effect.
Here is a print screen of the white notes I am talking about.
I think what you may need to do, is to extend each end of the Midi part you have copied (beginning and end) to reveal the hidden data and cut / delete them that way.
I moved forward with the project, not sure I can duplicate that as I glued the whole thing to be on the safe side.
When in multiple parts at the edit window (cubase 13 function) in particular, it gets epically messy…
So, to describe better.
I go to the part I wish to obtain the few bars from.
If I use the scissors to cut the segment, then the ghost notes (sorry, I know tbey are not ghost notes, but using this term just to describe them here), are visible before and after the segment that interests me.
If I go Range->select the part I want to cut & copy->go to Range->Range - Split, then the part that has been split has no ‘ghost notes’ before and after the few bars that I wish to copy.
AFAIA, this happens when a part of the beginning or end of the MIDI file is shortened through dragging, rather than cut and deleted etc. If that makes sense.
I was hoping this wasn’t the case…it can create such a mess.
I am so grateful that Steinberg on C13 has added this function where one can (FINALLY!!!) load all channels in the EDIT window and jump from instrument to instrument extremely easily. It is an absolute lifesaver!
However, if some tracks are cut the way you described it, i.e. not having the data before and after the desired part deleted, the outcome can be a massive mess…
Well, I have to cut and delete, etc, I was hoping I didn’t have to do that, but, tis what it is.
