Hello,
i hope someone is still running a Yamaha Motif XS7 with a newer Cubase.
I work with Cubase 11 (running on W10pro 64bit) and before I get the Motif XS on board, I would like to make sure it runs on Cubase 11.
I know that Motif was delivred with an older version of Cubase (AI 5) but is it also compatible with the 11?
Thanks in advance and kind regards
SunS
IF ! you want to connect the Motif via USB to Windows, you need the matching driver.
Otherwise the Motif allows plain audio, MIDI and USB drives/network fileshares. That is independent of Cubase.

Awesome - thanks for the quick input and link!

Check the limited compatibility!
The Motif is legacy hw. As usual, the first thing that fails with legacy is the fancy USB connection and special integration drivers. Audio and MIDI cables will work in 100 years still
Yeah i see… i’ve checked the driver specs - it should work with my W10 64 bit system. You suggest i might need a usb to midi adapter/card though if it doesn’t work straight with the usb connection … ?
Had my share with hours of searching for program change nos on my Korg Kronos2, I just want to play rather than tec stuff all the time …
Thanks again,
Sun
My point was: if everything else fails with USB, audio and MIDI lines will still work. So no need to avoid the Motif.
I have a Virus TI2 Polar that suffered the same problem. No drivers for Mac since years and still working.
Ah good to know, saves lots of time! Don’t want to miss good vintage key sounds …
Thanks again and have a great week

I use a Motif XS 7 with my Cubase sometimes. I had used it in Cubase 11. Cubase 14 now. You need the usb connection and also audio cables to record to sounds directly to your projects. That’s how I do it.
Thanks, cables connected (USB Midi, Audio I/O) and drivers installed.
For now, at least Cubase 11 has recognized the Motif, showing in Midi i/o. Have also set the DAW to Midi thru as recommended in the manual.
However, i don’t seem to get the extensions to work this way.
Wonder if it clashes with the Asio4all driver (still needed for other older hardware to go along)…
I am looking for a shortcut config video or guide to get this running
Kind regards
Sun
Can you advise which Yamaha driver and also which Cubase driver version you are using? My sys is Win 10/64.
I have come so far to connect and even having perfect online synchro of the sounds both with the Motif standalone and VST editor via USB, however no way to record any midi tracks via Cubase. Cubase Inspector shows Motif XS VST Midi In where Midi Out should appear and vice versa which appears strange to me.
So for now I am back to reduced work with midi cables only which of course is not exactly why i bought the Motif…
Thanks and kind regards

@ all who may wrestle with this (even though it seems an oooold topic):
The very solution was a simple firmware update of the motif …
Yep i tend to check the complicated stuff first…
could have saved me lots of time …
so next time …
Thanks again,
