It’s possible that the .vstsounds and installers are compressed already ? So pointless to zip/rar them again. The are presented separately so that you can install exactly what you need/want.
I do agree that the download assistant isn’t ‘best in class’ though - Steinberg were a bit late to this kind of app…NI was doing well over a decade ago. Hopefully we’ll continue to see improvements.
