Cubase 12 artist trying to import a project problem with stereo tracks and audio connections

Help! I have imported an old project from Cubasis into Cubase 12 Artist on my Mac. My audio files appear in stereo and when I go to set up "audio connections’ in mono, out stereo, I lose sound on the track. The signal is still there, but, no sound. When I change the out to stereo, the sound returns. I know, it’s a stereo track. When I experimented and added a group channel track, the original track becomes mono and the group track remains stereo. I am trying to create a project with mono input and stereo output on each track, even though the imported track is stereo. I want the track to be stereo, but, I also want it to remain stereo when I create the group. Help! How do I correct this issue?

You say that when you set stereo out you lose sound but then you say when you change the out to stereo sound comes back.

It’s not clear at all what you mean as in both case you’re talking about setting stereo as out so how is one working but one not?

Maybe screencaps or a video will help.

Thank you for your reply! Forgive me for the confusion: basically, I am trying to import tracks from another project to create a new project in cubase 12 artist. I am having a problem because the files are in stereo. I am not sure how to set up the audio connections to stereo tracks because they are causing problems when I add group channel tracks. The original track becomes mono. If I go back to the original track and set outgoing to stereo rather than group it becomes stereo again but I lose the connection to the Group Track. Also, I can’t seem to add a track to the project. No sound, no recording on the track, just empty space.

OK…What you are changing is the track routing…this is not the same thing as the audio connections which is the Cubase global ins and outs…

So your stereo track when routed to the stereo out is stereo.

If it becomes mono when you route to a group (you should explain how you know this? Just from the sound?) then it sounds as though you created a mono group.

so the issue started when I tried to add a new track. when I try to configure (set up audio connections for routing, the new track the routing on the other tracks changes and all sound is lost,

Post a screencap of the routing for this new track please?

so this is the work around that allows sound to play through the track and the only way the group channel will pick up the sound.

The problem is on some of the tracks it won’t recognize the corresponding group channel and it drops off the list when I search for it

note the photo. that is a drum track and its group channel but you see it does not appear in the list of group options

bottom one is the track top one is the group

There is nothing wrong in your pics. You have a channel drums routed to a group drums. That group can’t have drums as an option for output as that would cause a feedback loop. It goes to the stereo out from there.

no sound is coming from the group channel; that’s the problem

Set the group output to stereo out.
If you don’t have audio post just the cpr project file.

Here you see the track routing, the group routing and a capture of the track that has switched to mono…

The track you are saying has “switched to mono” is the group. Of course if you send a stereo track to a mono group, it will become mono.

Ok…I realise what you mean…you’re seeing the mono meter on the channel. But that’s still because you’re sending to a mono group. You need to set the group to stereo when you create it.

this issue continues and I have exhausted all avenues to solve it.
I have a project I created in the past on Cubasis. I extracted the tracks to icloud. From I cloud I imported them into a project. they sounded fine. Then I tried to route them to group channels and all the routing started to get messed up. When I created a group the original track became mono. I don’t understand what is going on.

I’m working in Cubase 12 on a mac

Can you show me a screencap where you actually followed my last instruction (to use a stereo group not mono) and it’s still not working??
