Cubase 12 is coming in 2022

well yes they are still there…but going forward who knows ?

in fact you’ve already signed the death warrant for the legacy licences that remain on the dongles

just bumping this in light of your previous post

So what I can do now is keeping this Cubase 11 Pro license or code until the Cubase 12 comes out? Will I be able to activate it by then when my license is Cubase 11, not 12?

if you’ve just bought it then you are in the ‘grace period’ you’ll get an automatic upgrade to a C12 licence. If you don’t want to use V11 (no dongle!) then just sit tight and all will be well when C12 comes out,…which will be next year

Here a very good news about licencing.
But registred my Cubase Artist 11 end of August 2021 .
So no grace period for Cubase 12.
I’m a little frustrated :frowning:

Yeah i just bought it! So no need to even register or activate the license right now?

not if you don’t want to buy a dongle.

Until what year?

Good morning ladies and gentlemen,

I had some hours of sleep and a coffee and now I am back and ready to answer more of your questions.

If you have dongle it is probably a good thing to load them with the last perceptual license you get. I have some backup licenses that I will update to 11 and get them in to a dongle before the disaster begins. I guess that I will have to update my PadShop Pro too to be able to use 2.0 on logic?

Sorry if this has been asked before, the thread is getting big, but:

Will a Cubase Pro 12 license (with the new licensing method) allow to run older versions of Cubase, or is 12 a cut-off point and we’ll have to use the usb-elicenser for 11 and back?

Hi, I just bought Cubase Pro 11 license for the grace period. I’m coming from a different DAW so I don’t have the eLicenser, just the new license (or code) from Guitar Center.

What’s my next step in order to get Cubase 12? Can I register the Cubase license to my account without the eLicenser now? I purchased Cubase for the new licensing system so I don’t want to buy the dongle.

It’s a little confusing for us newcomers trying to get into Cubase.

The answer is in the FAQ: After I update to Steinberg Licensing, will I still be able to run previous versions of the products I’ve bought?

Hi and welcome! Without a dongle you will have to wait until the release of Cubase 12 to use Cubase. On the release day you can then just enter the Download Access Code that you find in the box and a Cubase 12 license will automatically be added to your account.

Thank you for clarifying! So entering the Cubase 11 Pro code won’t be a problem by then?

It won’t be a problem as soon as Cubase 12 is released. Before that you will need an USB eLicenser.

no to your first question and yes to your 2nd - you get to keep your existing dongle/v11 licence. You also might need your dongle for any other software (spectralayers/absolute etc)

Thank you! I guess I’ll wait until the release day. I’m sure there are many users like me finally getting into Cubase with the new licensing! Super excited.

How about this one?

I’m not sure what you mean by that as a strategy ? All your dongle licences continue to work normally whatever version you have ?

The issue occurs when the licence servers are switched off - at an unknown date ? then it will become an issue if you want to do anything with them…although they should still work. You’ll certainly get plenty of notice before that happens. I’d wait before doing anything (IMO)

What happens to you upgrade path - and damaged dongle replacement after that is the issue of course
