Cubase 12 Pro hangs on "Initializing VST 2x. Plugin Manager" then crashes

Hope you can help

This is a repetitive error and happens every time I load Cubase:

When I start up Cubase when the loading process reaches “Initialising VST.2x Plug-In Manager” it hangs , then crashes

I then initiate the loading again this time it goes straight into Safe mode If I select “use current program preferences” then it crashes again. So if I select “Disable program preferences” or “Delete program preferences” The program continues to load and all is well ( except I have to set up preferences again i.e. audio driver etc).

I am obliged to repeat the above steps every time I wish to use Cubase

I appreciate that VST 2 is no longer supported in Cubase 12. ( i.e. VST 2 is discontinued)

  1. I have tried deleting VST 2 Plug-In path settings - ISSUE NOT RESOLVED

  2. I have kept the VST 2 Plug-In path settings ( so it had a path to refer to) - ISSUE NOT RESOLVED

  3. Re- installed Cubase 12 (twice) - ISSUE NOT RESOLVED.

Why does it hang when it tries to Initialise : VST 2x Plug-In Manager ?
How do I correct this?
Look forward to your reply
Thank you

Hi,

Reported to Steinberg. Thank you.

Hi,

The crash is not really clear. But most probably it comes from the aria_x64.dll plug-in. Get in touch with the plug-in vendor, please.

I’ll delete and reinstall aria_64.dll perhaps that will solve it.?
Thanks for your time and consideration.

Hi Martin,
Mines doing the exact same thing w/o Aria having ever been installed?
Could you possibly dagnose mine as well?

Hi,

Attach the dmp file, please.

I solved this problem in Cubase 11 Pro DELETING the VST BLACKLIST FILE. From that moment it loaded fast as to be expected.

That’s great… where do I locate the VST blacklist file in order to delete it?
Thank you

Hi,

It’s in the preferences folder. Cubase Preferences folders are:
Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Cubase X
Win: %appData% Steinberg/Cubase X_64

Hey.
Thanks Martin for the clarification… much appreciated.
Glad you found the solution!! Excellent.
