Cubase 12 Video Engine

Will Cubase 12 address the video playback engine.
Just purchased Cubase 11 Pro.it will not playback 1920 by 1080 at 50fps.
Had to go back to Reaper to finish project.
I don’t want to have to convert every file sent to me to 1920 by 1080 at 25 frames.
If Reaper can play any video file loaded why not Cubase.
Fingers crossed.
Cheers Bazz

Have you read this Frame Rates

50 FPS is supported

I think the problem is not due to frame rate but by resolution 1920*1020.

Got the same problem on my side and fixed with resized 720p (more than enough to work) with Handbrake transcoder (very cool soft !)

Issue fixed

I think there are a lot of misunderstanding about containers and codecs. There are a lot of youtubers explaining this.
Some codecs require a lot of processing power playing forward and a tremendous processing power playing backwards.
I use quicktime (container) prores 422 proxy (codec) 720p (aspect ratio) and the original frame rate for film audio post production.

Thx for the response.
I did read the manual, and I know it says 50 FPS is supported but it will not playback.
Plays a few frames then stops.
It will play 1920x1080 at 25 FPS no problem.
Therein lies my problem.I have to use Handbrake to convert every file this client sends me.
Reaper uses ffmpeg/libav video encoder which works everytime.
I prefer Cubase for composing to film hence the purchase
Still hoping next update will look at video playback.

I don’t think the next update will bring anything in that regard.

What codec are you using to convert the video? Really Apple ProRes works great, smooth with no issues.

Thx.
I was hoping to not have to convert,25 files various lengths is a time consuming chore.
I can convert in Handbreak no problem but its not the solution.

What codec encoded that file?

Hi there! Just jumping into this thread, I realise its old… What settings do you use when converting in Handbrake? My client also sends me files that cannot be opened in Cubase.

They have the following info:
MPEG-4
1920x1080
AAC, H.264

In Handbrake it has this info next to ‘Source’:
1920x1080, 12 FPS, SDR (8-bit 4:2:0, 1-1-1), 1 audio track

I think the problem is AAC audio.
Select H264 for video and mp3 for audio.

Strange but: 12 FPS ??
Not supported indeed by Cubase.
