As we all know by now, we can relax till October.
30 days sales campaign plus the usual grace period → At least two months before we may expect something exciting.
I notice that Cubase doesn’t seem to be included in the summer sale - Nuendo is. My money is still on November. Lots of cash swilling around because of Black Friday.
If going by Cubase 11:s last point update before release, it may take awhile. It was October 13, 2021 and Cubase 12 was released in 2 March 2022.
If it takes the same time for this, that means 4.5 months.
Since the 12.0.70 update was released in June 28, that would mean that 13 will be released in mid November…
… but have you taken the wind direction and speed into consideration?
I’m pretty interested in the next update because it will be interesting to see which direction Steinberg is taking Cubase. I’ve tried extensively Studio One, Logic hell even wasted my LIFE with Reaper for 6 months but nothing beats Cubase for me as far as workflow speed stability etc. despite some minor gripe points…
Wholeheartedly agree.
Out of all these, Cubase just had the best workflow, even if it could still be improved.
e.g. : Not being able to ALT+Click = cut events as I can do in Cubase is a complete deal breaker for me ![]()
Another thing I really miss is something like Studio Ones “Multi Instruments” or Reasons “Combinator”.
I mean the Reason Rack plug-in is great to use in Cubase. It’s a real bummer though that you can’t put Reason Rack extensions together with vst-instruments and vst-fx in a combinator.
Studio One seems to have solved this with their “Multi-instruments”.
Could also potentially open up for a Modular workflow like in Bitwig.
You know what would make that perfect, alt-right click set to the eraser for a 1+2 punch! I don’t think I’ve ever used the menu that is set to that, let us change it to a tool!! ![]()
I’m not a techy but I read all of the posts about Cubase and my impression is that Cubase 12 and Steinberg Licensing are just not stable yet. Cubase 13 needs to be built on a solid foundation and released when it is properly tested and ready, and not just because of the time interval since the last release.
“From time to time we would have a re-organisation to create the illusion of progress” - Gaius Petronius Arbiter, 66AD. Be careful what you wish for.
I set this up in Reaper because I can’t live without it as well. Prefer the aesthetics of Cubase though.
You can do this in Studio One
Studio one you can just double click to do this, which is I really like if making lots of splits.
Yea so so wish you could do that in Cubendo
Same, but unfortunately in reaper you don’t have the vertical/horizontal ruler lines when doing that, to know where the cut is going to snap to ![]()
So yeah it works somehow, but in Cubase it works just better.
I customized nearly everything in Reaper to work just like it does in Cubase, but in the end I gave up, as it was either not the way I wanted, or it didn’t work at all. I’d say I got 95% close, but those 5% missing, were already too much.
The main reason I don’t use Reaper though, is the fact it does not have VariAudio. I hate using Melodyne workflow wise and I have always to tune something in my projects.
Another thing is, that automation tracks always have the same color, regardless of which color the track has. And the automation lane/point colors are always random. On one track “pan” is blue, on the other “volume” is blue. Thats making me lose focus on big projects, cannot understand how on earth someone can work with this.
And lastly the interface just sucks. I designed my own, and I am happy about that, but everything else makes it not really comfortable to use.
One of the things I really liked in Reaper and what I really wanna see in Cubase as well, are how the tool modifiers can be customized.
In Cubase they force you into a certain way to use the tools with ALT/SHIFT/CTRL. Why is that?
Let us decide freely which tools to use when hitting certain modifiers.
Would be interested in seeing the Reaper interface you designed. Agreed about the modifiers. Why not? Many other things customizable. But I guess there has to be a limit somewhere. Actually may be one of Reaper’s issues
I made a spreadsheet matching up Cubase and Reaper commands to unify a workflow which helped. If Cubase would just get Ripple Editing and be able to save my outboard gear config I would be pretty happy. Hoping 13 has these.
Hi @Sunshy
What exactly do you mean by ripple editing?
Cubase has several ripple editing features, that’s why I’m curious.
I never thought about ripple editing until I started getting a lot of podcast work. Now it is indispensable. Possible in Cubase but it is not automatic and feels like a work around. See the gif in this thread
Perhaps you’re not using the correct tool? Cubase is not primarily an audio editor. For this type of work, I’d use WaveLab, for instance.
I am gonna check what I have and in case I can send you my theme and the settings
Atm it is of no use for me, but perhaps you can use it!
I hope there will be some kind of cloud storage available for cubase settings backup and project backup. Of course this will be a subscription but I like to have this for changing systems or simply as a backup.
like the logic package idea for this ( 1 file for the entire project, including all assets)
I’m new in Cubase maybe the package backup is already there ![]()
