Cubase 13 crashes "A serious problem has occoured in the following file"

Hi!
After launching Cubase 13.0.21, I got the messahe: “A serious problem has occurred in the following file… …Cubase13.exe”.
I deleted program preferences, but I still got this message. If disabling the preferences and deactivate 3rd party plugins, Cubase runs fine.
Could you please help to fix this issue?

I attached the dmp. file.

Cubase 13.0.21 64bit2024.2.15 20.20.51.365.dmp (725.0 KB)

I’m still having this problem…
I reinstalled Cubase, and all my plugins, deleted program preferences and saved them to a new file - still crashing

As far as I can see, this is a crash in Cubase, not a plugin per se.

I’d open a call with Steinberg…

Thanks for the reply!

Now I reinstalled everything, all the plugins, all the Steinberg programs, contents, everything, and the problem is the same…

I’ll contact the Support

Hi,

What did you do before you got the crash, please?

Are there any steps, you can always reproduce the crash?

The dump trace seems to show a problem in the audio device initialization.

This has been reported already some years ago and the reason was to disable the internal audio device of the computer.

What devices are you using for audio? Can you try to disable internal audio in your PC BIOS and see if that helps?

I think I have the solution, I use my old Roland OCTA Capture interface, and a new driver came out, in which they solved some Windows 11 compatibily issues.
Since then, the error message haven’t shown up yet. So the culprit was the driver

To be honest, nothing… maybe a Windows update. The issue came from one day to the other. That’s why I didn’t suspected the driver of the interface

I have this same issue…I’ve tried EVERYTHING…I even changed my Nvidia graphic card so that I could use Nvidia studio driver…Still getting this error many times a day…It seems it’s even worse with FabFilter Saturn (which is one of my favorite plugins)… But Saturn is not the only plugin causing this error…Sometimes it’s Saturn, Sometimes it’s NeuralDSP plugins, sometimes it’s Cubase14.exe, sometimes it’s ucrtbase.dll…The story goes on. I’m a professional and must say that this doesn’t help my businesses…
I’ve searched internet and it seems this problem has been around for YEARS now…Why doesn’t Steinberg fix this issue, instead all the new updates have fancy new features and sometimes new exciting bugs :D…

I don’t think crash dumps will have answers to this since the reason for the error changes but I can of course post some when I’m in the studio again.

Hi,

Attach some DMP files to see, where the crash happens, please.

Well…I might at some point BUT I don’t think they will answer the questions here…Instead I found a solution and want to share it here in hope that someone else gets help from this as well…

I’ve had lots of trouble with C13 and especially C14. Plugins crashing cubase, Cubase.exe crashing cubase, ucrt-whatever.dll crashing Cubase, LOADS of different reasons and sometimes without a reason…“A serious problem has occurred” sometimes 20-30 times a day. I’ve also had loads of weird situations where Cubase just hangs for maybe 2 seconds and then quits suddenly.
I’ve read a million tons of forum posts and tried quite much every tweak imaginable…
The usual Windows tweaks, a few of the more unusual ones to registry and services, ParkControl, Process Lasso…
I even updated my bios, changed graphics card…
I’ve dealt with PCs since 80s and have a basic understanding of how to tweak my PCs without harming them or making them unstable). This is also maybe the 6th or 7th pc on my 25 year long career in this business so I think it’s safe to say that I know the basics.

Anyway, I’ve had Windows search indexing disabled for all my hard disks since the very beginning of my current PC but yesterday I realized that Windows can also index user data and startup data…So after disabling Windows Indexing COMPLETELY, my system has been rock solid and stable at least many hours now which hasn’t been the case lately…

Hope this helps someone. My problems have been going on for months now and I’m a professional so the whole business here has suffered from this all…
Keep my fingers crossed that my Cubase is stable now and in the future so I can concentrate on real stuff.

The best to everybody!
