I upgraded my machine from dual Xeon Gold 5220 to dual Xeon Gold 6140 and added 32GB RAM (now 96GB, was 64GB). The Windows 11 Pro system works like a charm, no problems with BIOS RAM, CPU + Board tests. No problems with other applications. But Cubase was running fine before the upgrade but now crashes on startup (at the time it would usually display the hub). I tried running without plugins and preferences.
I opened a support ticket with Steinberg including the dump file on Saturday but I am becoming impatient. Maybe someone here has an idea?
Also tried reinstalling (v13.0.41). Ableton Live 12 is working OK and I would rather switch to Ableton than downgrading my machine for Cubase. On the other hand, I would miss Cubase, have been using it for > 30 years.
Seems to me as the only way to troubleshoot. A cpu upgrade is not trivial and this one is really different, not just same generation higher clock.
You could try a repair install but that takes just as much time. Just get a windows image on an USB drive, install and install cubase. Takes maybe 45 min and then you know
I now got the info that from Steinberg support that Cubase/Nuendo have a problem with this processor (dual Processor Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6140 CPU @ 2.30GHz, 2295 Mhz, 18 Core(s), 36 Logical Processor(s)). A fix is in the works, but arrival unknown. A possible solution is the deactivate “Hyper Threading” in Bios (I won’t try).
Good tip, thank you. Interesting tool. I wasn’t able to immediately get the cubase exe working again with this. I wait for Steinberg to fix it for my legacy projects and keep investing into Ableton.
Let me know if you end up finding a fix. I would love to incorporate hyper-threading, but can’t.
I have a very similar system dual Intel Xeon E5-2698 v4 2.20gh 20 core Processors but running windows 10. I had the same exact issue, and I can confirm that turning off hyper-threading and c-states in bios did resolve the issue for me and it runs great. Windows runs like a beast for me no issues, lightning quick.
My issues for the most part are latency related stuff. It mostly happens when mixing with lots of plugins. I use mostly Waves and Fab-Filter plugins and I don’t understand how I can be at full load with or without ASIO Guard with about 10 of them going. I’ve done basically all of the usual things, from all the YouTube videos, as well as disabled unused hardware, and useless windows processes. All drives are up to date.
LatencyMon graph looks great for the most part but after about 10 mins computer gets a spike and sound cuts for a split second. Rinse and repeat. I get the usual suspects…ntoskrnl, wdf01000, dxkrnl. Thinking about upgrading the graphics card from a Radeon r7 250 to something a little better. Hopefully that helps.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
