Hello my name is Julian, ok so I have a song Im working on, but the organ/keyboards are in 440hz and the guitar bass and vocals are somehow at 450hz., and now I have a guitarist going to record and im wondering if I should have him record at 440hz or tune it up to 450 hz and use a plugin or something to up the organ track? or should I have him record at the normal 440hz and try and bring the other instruments down ? is this even possible or am I screwed and need to re-record everything in 440hz? that might not be an option at this point. please help? is there a plug in that can address this issue? its almost not even noticeable but when I had the bass player record his track he told me he had to tune up to 450hz to match the recording I sent him. thoughts? ideas? thank you
Julian
Hi Julian,
you could use the Fine-Tune setting in the info line of audio events to tune the guitar and vocal recordings down. The difference between 440Hz and 450Hz is about 39 cents. So a fine-tune value of -39 should do the job.
oh excellent! this is the kind of info I was looking for., but does this change the entire track? what about each individual track? is there a way to see what Hz each track is on? 450hz or 440hz
UPDATE: so I noticed that if I click on each individual track I can adjust it separately!
so now my only question is, is there a way to see what frequency your tracks are? 440hz 450 hz as in my case or even 432hz? or if “fine tuning” is at 0 it represents 440hz?
Yes, you can change it individually for each event on a track.
You could try to identify the tuning with VariAudio, e.g. by selecting an A3 there. The deviation from the 440Hz-based tuning is shown there in the info line. Of course, it can also be a local pitch fluctuation. If the percentages are similar for all notes, that’s probably an indication for a different tuning.
Personally, i would just adapt the fine-tune value by ear until the event matches the the tuning of the other tracks.
A fine-tune value of 0 means “keep the tuning of the current event”. If you change it (1 cent = 1/100 of a halftone), it’s relative to the pitches in 440Hz tuning. I wouldn’t think to much about this. Just adapt the value until the result sounds correct.
