I agree. The GUI is really heavy on the eyes. Specially the contrasting mute and solo buttons are pulling my focus away from editing music.
Agreed. You know, even a simple release notice: āCaution: Due to big changes to the UI, we strongly recommend regular users to revisit their color schemes and adjust them accordingly.ā would go a long way.
Because, you see, ever since 8.5 that Iāve been upgrading regularly, Iāve never disagreed this much with what Cubase was showing me at the very first launch of the application. āYour preferences carry over, and you just get in there and continue from where you left off.ā That has been the experience so far, but not this time.
Thanks to this thread, the fellow forum members and the discussion going on, I could bring the appearance to the point where I can now begin to adapt to the changes. Before the tweaks, I couldnāt, because it was a sensory overload. My eyes wouldnāt let my mind focus.
But, boy, what a surprise it was that first time!
I suspect they outsourced GUI work to India, it looks like it was done in couple hours by some teenager in Bangalore for 10 bucks. No way anyone even with minimum knowlege would implement bold white font ā¦ or flat buttons ā¦ or toy looking fadersā¦etc.
Of course. And then they went to work at the Yamaha call center for the rest of the day. Sheesh.
If you think once - okey, how I can modify my workflow, with that new design ?
You will be surprised how many possibilities you have. And after that you donāt wanna go back to 12.
Yes, there some cosmetic problems, and Iām sure, it will be solved soon.
Nobody in Steinberg donāt want make bad product. And of course they listen us, and read all what we writing here.
Remember what people said when Cubase 7.0 MixConsole was introduced
With all due respect, there is no respectable and professional company that releases something bad and tries to convince us that it is new and you say that they will fix it.
You cannot buy a car that has Bad design or Problems and the company is trying to convince you to get it for the same price in the hope that it will fix it for you in the future.
I am not talking about an ugly design, but rather that it is ineffective and tiring to the eye. It is a bad imitation of Studio One and cannot be resized, as if whoever designed it did not understand anything about design.
Even when I present an Excel file to my manager, I pay attention to all its details Unique and Clear Fonts , Colors , Sizes , Easy to see and find Dataā¦ so that it looks beautiful, distinctive, and free of errors. It is nothing more than an Excel file, and we do not provide it to companies or clients . It is specific to our company only.
So how about a large company that has a name in the market and there are strong competitors?
To present a product in this way, there are still unsolved problems ā¦
still old windows
The program and its sections have more than one design (windows 95 , Control Room , Mixer and inspector)
I see this as a disregard, firstly, for the market , competitors, and secondly, for customers and fans of the company
Even if they want a modern design, they should take a good look at Studio One and see that it is clear, effective, and can be customized well, although I personally do not like its design, but it is still much better than what we see.
For Example : opus hollywood, luna , Steinberg Plugins ā¦ Better Cleaner Design
Itās something provocative
I havenāt upgraded, yet, but from what I have seen in the countless screenshots posted here and there, just few impressions :
Pros
- I like the new MixConsole : seems to be more streamlined than the previous C12- one.
- I have nothing against the fader caps : actually, I see them in a better way than C12 ones, as being more horizontally compact.
- And most of all, the new inspector : can someone confirm that we finally got rid of the buggy behavior of the āpinnedā sections in the instrument tracks ? If so, Iām going to upgrade as soon as I can. This one was a workflow killerā¦
Cons
- as many among us, I really donāt like the too white new button characters and their design : among others, the new M/S/R/W seem to having been directly copy/pasted from Logic Pro, and itās not a compliment : the previous ones were much better and a part of the Cubase UI own identity since countless years. Who actually asked for such a change ?
Overall I am enticed to upgrade, wouldnāt it be for the new inspector alone. This, with the preserved VST 2.4 and Generic Remote compatibilities, but itās another subjectā¦
Trying to find an easy scheme and I feel mostly comfortable with this. Still adjusting.
Might seem dull to some but I feel comfortable with the conditions of my eyes.
I agree about the striking whites and over saturated M S buttons could ease down.
That looks good to me
Look , Chill , give them a chance , they have a lot to deal with , they will sort something , thereās too many people to be ignored , so giveāum a bit of breathing space , i have a visual disability as well but just let them get on with it . first couple of days fine but come on . wait or use C12 until
Another thing Iād really, really like is if there was some kind of alpha-blended meters in the lower zone when inserts or sends are selected instead of the meters+sliders view, or just single-pixel lines off to the side. Very much easier to see what channel youāre working with that way, I reckon.
I donāt expect a fix overnight but I expect the issue to be acknowledged, to let us know they are taking our concerns serious.
@Eaygee set your expectations to weeks, not days.
Ohh believe me the āHills have eyesā
Well at least I have a work around for now. Cost me an Extra $600 on top of the upgrade price. I took down the brightness and contrast on the two new monitors and Itās kind of like 12 now. I know that doesnāt work with your scenario Itās still too much white everywhere though.
Since youāre new here, you might want to note that this is not an official Steinberg support forum. This is a user run and moderated forum. The fact that occasionally one or two folks from Steinberg might chime in on posts when they have a moment, does not mean that they will be posting any announcements or even responding to posts here. This place is for users to get help and support from other users. If you want a response from Steinberg, go email them directly or wait for them to post an announcement on their own webpage.
Iām actually experiencing lots of glithes, that C12 never had. Not only the dark background when you pass somewhere with your mouse, like I saw in one of the previous posts here, but only a few white flashes when I scroll. Also yeah, the inspector is definitely too plain and every buttons looks the same so itās not as fast as the previous version. Not to mention that itās not possible to use the mouse wheel to rapidly scroll and change midi channels directly on the midi track, or that sometimes copy/paste of CC parameters across midi regions of different tracks doesnāt work, despite the new midi editor is very good, on paperā¦
Kind of disappointed at this time, considering that Iām one of those users that update/upgrade on day 1, and I know itās not always wise to do that, but Iāve started with C5 and Iāve never been experiencing all of these bugs and weird behavior all at once on a new releaseā¦
Gotcha, was thinking this was a Steinberg ran Forum.
Sorry, actually I didnāt. I went back and read it more carefully, but I didnāt see the sarcasm, and I feel bad about it, because I love sarcastic humor. I guess your sense of humor is a bit more refined than mine. And no, Iām not saying that sarcastically.
But I guess Iām a little burned by 25 years of reading so many posts of jackasses that have this arrogant attitude when you post about something that you donāt like, or that doesnāt work well, and they are fanboys of whatever, usually Apple, and their response is usually to say youāre wrong because of this, that and the other thing, and they are usually idiots who have no idea what they are talking about. So I thought you were one of them. My apologies.
Sorry if someone already posted this, itās hard to keep up with this thread when it keeps growing and growing.
But someone might have some success if they can find out how to open the skins.srf file located in
Cubase 13.app/Contents/Skins/skin.srf
Sorry, I donāt know the path in Windows. But well, itās supposed to contain the GUI, but I could bet a million bucks that itās encrypted by Steinberg and no program can open it. Trust me, I tried. And maybe itās not even that file, but one of the other skin.srf files inside the Cubase app:
So, if anyone with more knowledge and time than me wants to go down that rabbit hole, let us know what you found. Obviously itās not just a matter of opening the file with the right editing software and being able to pull out the PNGs inside that file, edit them, then put them back in, save the .srf file in a way that Cubase will load it without issues, and then replace the skin.srf file inside the Cubase app, and after all this, if it launches without crashing (and thatās a big IF), then every single time Cubase crashes you will think it was that file, so you will say screw this, Iāll get used to the new awful GUI because I still love Cubase.
