I actually like logics handling of mute and solo buttons. Firstly they are a different colour than record and monitor. Cubase now has 2 buttons the same size, solo and record, that are the exact same red.
I also like the way logic greys out muted track regions…
I prefer the dark general colours, the colour pallete and most other GUI choices in Cubase though.
There’s the left zone, the inspector as we know it. And in 13, there’s an even more left zone that we can switch on and off, the channel Tab. This channel Tab shows (by default) the audio related path of the track, so for instruments, all audio inserts, sends, the fader etc, are there.
If you want, though, send me a PM with exactly what stuff you want me to check out for you, and I’ll get back to you later in the day. (with screengrabs too if words can’t get the point across)
I’ve done UI/UX for some big name companies. Don’t ask me the things I know.
overall I really like the UI update.
The white needs to come down 10% as others have said.
The font is too heavy / bold in most places. it needs to be set to normal size, and how about something smoother looking as its pretty chunky font.
I love some of the goofy 90’s UI elements are FINALLY gone. That said, another pixel of space and bringing back the rounded corners would be nice. gradients I don’t care so much about but do miss a bit.
The main problem for me is the over saturated colors - S,M, R, W are 100% on one of the RGB channels and look ridiculous on a HDR 600nit 4K screen. Take down the saturation 10-20%. we have 10bit displays in P3 color gamut and 8bit UI design doesn’t cut it anymore. stop designing for 1995 grade monitors.
The text on the bottom of the mixer faders isn’t anti-aliased. it looks pretty poor of there is more than 10-12 chars in it
Huge fix that the ch inspector can leave multiple items open now. that was almost worth the upgrade price alone. The added left side ch strip is also super cool
I don’t care about the sends / inserts having dark. holes. it’s not the cleanest UI but all the other fixes and improved contrast are a big help.
100% PURE EVIL™ UI Problem still there : the track automation reveal icon. how many folks even know about it ? the one at the bottom left of the track header box - its only visible if you mouse over it. this one is serisouly the worst UI thing I’ve seen. How can you HIDE a major UI element ??? make the icon visible. that should of been fixed in this update.
I 100% would not want to go back to dated Cu12 UI, but Cu13 UI needs some work to be a little easier on the eyes. The other feature updates are also pretty good but need to take a further exploration of them.
Totally wrong , i agree with the User run community. However The forum is tied to your My Steinberg account which makes it official , whether Steinberg choose to participate in a forum that they supply via their Steinberg system is up to them , if there are issues of someone that needs reprimanding Steinberg have full power and can even close the forum down without the Users run communities consent so , Yes it’s an Official ’ let the users run the forum ’ Forum
Yep, they are indeed matching with a Logic environnement. But a failure was to be expected from any attempt to paste some Logic buttons in a Cubase like UI. The confirmation is here…
Same story with trying out StudioOne back in the day when they released v1.
I couldn’t get past the cluttered and messy and eye-unfriendly flat looking GUI.
Little did I know that one day I will pay for this in Cubase
Yeah, comparing side-by-side with Cubase 12, oh my gosh there is so much unnecessary white writing in 13. In Cubase 12, really only the track names are bright white. There’s much more contrast happening, which is a visual artist thing.
And I miss that weird shaped blue-ish blob thing that surrounded the stuff at the top in the inspector, like the mute and solo (I think). It’s stylish and cool, and again, gives more visual contrast.
I guess the people at Steinberg are either musicians or engineers… Where are the visual artists?
Actually this kind of stuff is much more a visual artist thing, a “new trendy” way of visualizing things than that of an engineer. Is form over function, like some wanna-be modern architecture, or interior design. Self-indulgence and snobbery, actually…
I understand some of the reaction to the new UI as it does tend to be a bit aggressive.
I actually prefer it here at the studio as we have our screens up on the console meter bridge, several feet away from where we sit. The new UI really stands out and improves visibility from a distance, so thumbs up from me.
thanks for that. my #1 UI/UX problem is apps hiding really useful features with missing / misleading UI elements or ones that use modifiers no one would intuitively think of just trying . apps shouldn’t hide useful features !
#2 is useful error messages and ideally suggest a specific fix or at least tell you what actually went on, error -36
I actually made these 2 adjustments in Settings/Interface that tamed down most of the problems with too much color on tracks and which track is selected problem. Turn OFF Show Color For Selected , brought sliders down a bit.
While I was at it I madd all the UI colors in there a bit darker and less saturated
Long thread with lots being said. My 2 cents is that I like the changes. My largest complaint is the little bugs, several visual artifacts glitching up the new GUI. Hopefully these will be fixed quickly. Nothing fatal but annoying for sure. I’m on Windows 11 with a new machine (<1 year old) so maybe that is part of it. I keep checking pretty much daily for an update.
For anyone who’s done GUI programming even 1/4 as sophisticated as Cubase knows these kinds of bugs are a PITA to track down and fix, many are device driver related and not really something Steinberg can fix by themselves. And it’s IMPOSSIBLE to make everyone happy with ANY change, even small ones.
Okay, so I’ve seen a couple of screenshots that don’t display the different heights of the “M” and “S” I’m experiencing. This is on an antique Windows desktop PC. This weekend I will install 13 on my “modern” laptop and see if any change occurs. Looking forward to experimenting with some of the color settings. The brightness thing isn’t one of my initial concerns. It’s more the inconsistent size and thickness of the fonts. One way or another, not a deal breaker .
