Cubase 13 is great, but the look changed for the worse

And that is the best example why a yearly subscription plan does not make a DAW any better and is no real solution.
Also it will put off a lot of customers, which Steinberg knows, and thats why they’re not doing it.

Yup, but this still doesn’t tell us the entire story, these windows have become very rare in C13. And if I set Win10 UI to “best performance”, the standard windows have the same menu as well.

They don’t. What we see in my example is older than Windows 10. This is Windows 10 in safe mode with the GUI at it’s most basic:

They don’t. They have changed over the years. I have been using Windows since 1990. I am old.

Addendum:

Although I will add that the screenshot I took of the Pool Window is also not a standard Windows GUI. But it is a GUI I saw more commonly in the early 2000s in other applications.

For example, this is the Eclipse IDE GUI of the early 2000s

Your example doesn’t prove what you’re suggesting.

Steinberg can’t afford to do rapid updates unless they are financed. What you’re pointing out is that Avid is greedy. That’s a separate issue. I’ve seen other companies improve their software quickly with subscription offerings.

So what about these menus?

As with Cubase these are some single windows, which still look like the good old windows, despite perhaps some icons which got updated. Which still does not prove anything.

I am 120% sure they made their calculations and came to the conclusion, that its not benificial for them. Otherwhise you can be sure they would have done it.

Nope the day they go subscription is the day i walk away. Will never pay a subscription for my DAW or plugins. I want to own my products out right.

Some of those are actually from Windows NT:
Google “windows 10 still contains windows NT code”

They haven’t done it because their customers keep saying “Don’t do it!” followed by “Why haven’t you fixed this??”

I have to ask, have you used Windows as long as I have? My uncle literally took me to the store in 1995 to pick up a copy of Windows 95. Why are you attempting to school me on this topic?

Then I recommend you reduce the severity of your complaints.

Actually no. They get our money. I have purchased Multiple Cubase, Multiple Nuendo and other Steinberg products. They need stop doing stupid things like breaking what wasn’t broke, like the complete unnecessary change of look from 12 to 13. That was just a stupid business move and decision that in the long run will cost them. Who ever made that decision should be fired because they have no clue. I stick with Steinberg but they have a habit of stupid decisions when it comes to their products. Perfect example the Nuage.

Good product with limited financing = Slower development
Fast development with limited financing = Bad product
Good product and faster development = More financing

Then raise the price of the upgrades. But give us a decent product and again stop changing what doesn’t need to change. Again changing the look from 12 to 13 was not needed it was a stupid decision and now going to slow the progression of things that really needed to change and be fixed.

The “update product” is a murky business model because they have to convince you to purchase their update. Which is why the do things like add a vocoder. People don’t buy updates when it’s just an unromantic list of bug fixes.

The subscription model says, “I agree to pay you a regular fee and I trust you will address my concerns throughout the coming months”.

Subscriptions are garbage and I refuse to do it for audio gear. I have always owned my products from analog and outboard days until digital present. Steinberg needs somebody that really understands what the people want because who ever makes the decisions has no fricken clue. Look at the bad press they are getting all over media about this upgrade /downgrade. The only people giving it high praise are the people they pay out there to do it. Other than that the majority of chatter is negative… If they would have implemented the new functions but left the look alone 13 would be the talk of the town in a positive manner by the majority.

Newsflash… You don’t technically own any of the software. You’re granted a license to use it, which can also be revoked at any time the manufacturer deems necessary.

Might wanna read some of those EULA’s one of these days…

I wonder where all this ‘bad press’ is?? Going by the forums here, at KvR and Gearwhatever, seems to be about the same amount of usual chatter there always is… Most of the people are getting on just fine, while the ones with issues just happen to be the most vocal and seem to have enough time on their hands to post constantly about said issues over and over and over again… In this thread, there’s literally a handful of you complaining and posting constantly. How many of the 698 replies in this thread are from the same 10 people over and over?

I suppose that’ll do on this one.

Thank you. After investigation this is due to the fact that the menus are not enabled on both windows. A workaround until we fix this would be to make sure those two windows have a menu so that you don’t have to adjust them every time you reload the project.

We are aiming to fix this issue in an upcoming version.

Maybe change the title instead of closing it?
