Hi
I’m planning to buy the “rent to own” subscription of cubase 13 pro via splice.com
What’s your opinion about this on-line store ? Is it legit ? Do you recommend it? Is it trust worthy ?
Thanks
Hi,
Yes, it’s legit.
Myself, I prefer to own the software, not rent it.
I don’t have the money to buy cubase 13 pro at once. So I decided to pay a monthly subscription
After 34 months of subscription I get a perpetual license
You don’t rent it, you pay in installments and it’s pitty so few VST vendors allow that.
Although the price is similar to the one from Steinberg directly, you might be better off saving up instead as Steinberg do sales, up to 40-50% off Cubase, could work out a better deal.
Also in 34 months time, you’ll be 2 versions behind assuming a new version once a year.
I do think that all software vendors should have these payment instalment plans available, perhaps over 12-15 months though, not 34.
I am someone who thinks the so-called rent-to-own model is a form of exploitation. Here in the USA companies prey on people in the poorer demographics – I consider it to be in the same ilk as the so-called Payday loans, though a little less evil.
Yes. And…
There’s a real possibility that the money you play in will be lost, since they will not transfer any credits, and a time will come when you will see the newer features in a subsequent Cubase version that you cannot access, unless you start paying from scratch.
Rent-to-own is almost always a bad deal whether for software or anything else. The user pays the highest price possible, and risks losing the entire investment due to unforeseen circumstances.
If you start the rental now, it’s only for Cubase 13. you will not get the next version of Cubase (14 presumably).
If you stop paying you lose access to the product, and while you can start paying again, to regain use, it’s likely 13 will be an old version and Splice will offer you the same deal starting at zero for the next newer version.
You would do better to buy a lower version of Cubase and save your money till you can afford to buy Cubase during one of the sales.
Thanks for your help and for your advice
