I am running Cubase 13 Pro on a MacBook Pro M1. I recently purchased a Montage M. That keyboard comes with the ESP software version of the Montage M. I have gone through the activation process and downloaded the ESP software. The problem is that Cubase 13 has put the VST 3 on the block list. And if I try and reactivate it, Cubase shuts down. Anyone have a solution to this?
Here’s the error message.
The following plug-ins have been added to the Blocklist:
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Yamaha/Expanded Softsynth Plugin for MONTAGE M.vst3
Have you checked to see if there is an Apple Silicon (universal) binary for that plugin? If you’re running in native mode only that could be the issue. I presume you’re not running Cubase in Rosetta, but you could certainly try that and see if you still get the error. I’d first verify you’ve got the latest Montage bits though.
Yeah, that’s a bummer. Well, I should qualify that with “I wouldn’t want to run my production studio software in Rosetta if I could help it.” I realized after typing “bummer” that it was a purely subjective response. Other folks may be running in Rosetta all day long and living a blissful life.
I did download the version that was available a couple of days ago. I’m guessing that would be the latest, but never hurts to double check. I also deleted and reinstalled the ESP vst, but no dice. I do appreciate you providing some guidance. I fairly efficient with figuring things out but this one has me stumped. I did send a support request to Steinberg. We’ll see if they have anything to say about it. Let me know if you have any other thoughts. Thanks again. By the way, I’ve been at this for several years with a Mac and haven’t had any Rosetta issues. Not sure why I always get the message about running Rosetta. But when something’s working…jb
Totally - stick with what works. Just as yet another potential option, let’s say you want to ditch Rosetta and run Apple Silicon Native, you can still do what you want with something like Metaplugin or Blue Cat Patchwork. In this example, iZotope has an old synth named Iris2, which is actually quite capable and has a rather unique spectrogram-based modulation system, but it’s out of development and strictly x64 VSTs. However, it did ship with an AU component, as does your Montage M (according to that site). So if you want to, you can just load up Patchwork (as an instrument or effect) and load the AU component and run it while still operating in native Apple Silicon mode:
Just in case you were so inclined. Anyway, glad you’ve got it working, but there’s always other options. Patchwork/Metaplugin also act as “racks” as well so you can easily load sets of plugins. Anywho, out.
