Cubase 14.0.20 Stereo Output Routing Duplicates

I have a new interface, UA Apollo X8 Gen 2 and I am finding that I can’t enter more than 8 stereo pairs without seeing duplicates. If I put a 9th pair then the output screen gets duplicated. I though first if I entered them one pair at a time it works until the 9th pair. Any clue why this is going on with this interface? Not sure if it is only this interface. Anyone else seeing this?

Hi,

How does it look like in the Audio Connections > Outputs, please?

Martin, thanks for the reply. Here is the two screens. Once you go over 8 stereo pairs then the screen changes. I did the same thing in Cubase 12 and got the same result. I’ll try it with a different audio interface. I have my old one still connected.

Martin, I tried my older interface and I get the same results. If you do more than 8 pairs of Stereo outputs you get duplicates. I never noticed this before because I only used 8 pairs of outputs. Now that I have the ability to run into a summing mixer, that is when I noticed the audio outputs being repeated.

May I ask why you’re creating separate busses rather than a single bus with multiple outputs? Not trying to say that’s your issue, but I’m just making sure I understand. You’re also bypassing the monitor out and going directly to line-out on your outputs, which is fine, but also a great way to blow your monitors if you’re using them on the line outs. I’m just curious as to what your goal is there. None of my business, of course

They’re working in stereo, multichannel buses won’t work for them

Well they said now they got the option to use a summing mixer…their goal just might be summing

Yikes. All that was in the post too. I need to just not post when I’m this busy

Thanks for the gracious reply!

Yes. I’m working with a 16 channel summing mixer. Cubase is working fine with 8 stereo pairs. It is when you add 9th stereo bus is when you see the duplicates. Can anyone confirm that this happens on your system. I am on a MacBook Pro M4 Max and using a UA Apollo X8 Gen 2.

Thanks.

I can replicate the behaviour. The output bus connections get one entry for the stereo bus and an additional one (which can be unfolded) for the left/right mono assignment.

When using 5.1 busses it happens on the 5th output bus.
When using mono busses it seems to not happen (I tried 20 mono busses plus one stereo bus).
Just a graphical nuisance, I’d say.

Hi,

I can replicate the behaviour, too.

But I understand the concept, why it is like this…

If you have only 2 Output Buses, you can select the:

  • Stereo Out
  • Left
  • Right

So, you can choose any of the options.

However, once you have more Output buses and it doesn’t fit in the dialog, so the scroll-bar appears, you get an option to collapse the buses. Therefore, you get:

  • Stereo Out: To be able to select the Stereo Out bus.
  • ▼ Stereo Out: To be able to collapse the Left/Right “folder” (this is not selectable)
  • Left
  • Right

Thanks Martin. the behavor for output busses is different than the input busses. For Input busses they are all folders in the audio connections and there are no folders in the routing input selection. I think the input side is clearer and they both should behave the same. Could you put in a feature request to commonize the behavor? There is really no need on the output buss to show the folders.

Example: (Ignor the missing connections. I’m not connected to the audio interface)
