Cubase 14.0.32 and sonnox

Hi,

If I create an audio or instrument track with sonnox Inflator or Envolution. I bypass the plugin. Save the project and close it. I re-open it, the sonnox plugins are not by-passed and active again.

Is this a bug in cubase or sonnox ?

I use cubase 14.0.32 on MacOs 15.6 (M1 proc).

best regards

I don’t have Sonnox and I’m on Windows 10, but bypassed plugins stay bypassed for me. (V14.0.32)
Does this happen with any other plugin? If not, maybe Sonnox issue?

Hi, only sonnox have this issue.

If the plug is not used in the project at all, you could try disable (power off) instead of bypass (it is ony in the plugin window, not in the mixer). Otherwise try if automating the bypass does work. Set a bypass automation node at the beginning of the project, You can create one by having read/write enabled and bypassing the plugin while the project is playing. Then drag this to beginning of project or draw it.
Probably needs a permanent fix from Sonnox

Thanks for the workaround tips.

I opened a sonnox support ticket. Let see what they reply.

Doesn’t happen here on Windows with Inflator. Is it a trial or a registered version?

Happens here with Inflator/Mac OS Sequoia too. I assumed it was because I had saved my master bus setup as a preset, and it was resetting to the presets saved condition, but I’ve seen it happen when I set up the plugins individually too.

I use the limiter too but so far it’s only Inflator that does it. My stuff is a mix of hardware samplers and Halion stuff, so I need it off while ‘writing’ and it gets annoying at times. Been removing it lately until it’s time to mix when I actually need it.

thank you for the confirmation. I will add this to the sonnox case.

yes I can reproduce this behavior on mac latest everything

I’ll have to fire everything up and check that one when I get home tonight.
I only saw it with Inflator because when I’m still ‘writing’ tracks, I have my master bus preset chain already there, but I bypass/deactivate Inflator so any Halion/Groove Agent tracks aren’t blowing away my incoming samplers/synths. I leave the Limiter on all the time though, since its really my ‘safety’ limiter at the very end..

I opened a ticket with Sonnox six days ago and referenced this thread in the case. Let’s wait and see what they respond with.

I got a reply of sonnox support. They acknowledge the problem and will release a fix:

Hi Kurt,

Thanks you for reporting this, and sorry for the delayed response.

I’ve taken a look into this, and this looks like a bug specific to Steinberg DAWs, as it doesn’t seem to happen in other VST hosts such as Reaper, Studio One, etc. It looks like this was a bug introduced to a few of our Oxford products with our latest updates, and looks like it currently affects Envolution, Inflator, Limiter, and Transmod.

I’ve made our developers aware and hopefully was can fix this ASAP. In the meantime, using the bypass button on the plugin’s GUI, not the Cubase/Nuendo bypass button, recalls correctly. Alternatively, the ‘Disasble/Activate’ button can also be used instead.

Apologies for the inconvenience, and we appreciate you letting us know!

Kind Regards

Jonjo - Sonnox
