Cubase 14.05 Crashed

Hello Cubase developer team.
Today I was developing a project from Cubase 13 in Cubase 14.
In about 2 hours the program crashed 4 times during standard operations such as adding an audio track. Mostly, however, while working.
with the message: “Your project is no longer stable. Please save your project under a new version and restart the program” (or something similar)
Windows 10 pro is installed on my studio computer.
I have attached the crash logs. I hope this helps.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Hi @Herbert_Schmitt . Thanks for providing the 4 dumps. I had a look.

  • One dump was a freeze or a longer unresponsiveness, when Cubase wanted to display a file-selector system dialog. The callstack shows some windows code that seems to be trying to access a network location (like: NetworkExplorer!CNetworkExplorerFolder::ParseDisplayName and ntlanman!GetNetworkPhysicalPath). Without further information how to reproduce the situation, there’s not much we can do about it.
  • The other three dumps are crashes in context of having the track-NotePad visible, when switching tracks. I was unable to reproduce the crash; it would be great if you could provide further information how to reproduce it. I’ve created a bug report (internal reference: CAN-57494) and assigned it to the related team.

Thank you

Cubase 14 Pro is extremely unstable. I am running on Windows 11 Pro (23H2 latest build 22631.4391) and have to reboot again and again. Different situations and operations. Crashing, not responding, not being able to open templates from Cubase 13 Pro, etc. I hope it will stabilize soon. No way to work with it at the moment.

I had the same bug way back - maybe Cubase 5 or 6, so it’s an old one…

@Mads_Vinding , you may be right, that there may have been problems with the notepad many years ago as well, nevertheless I assume that it’s a new problem as quite a lot from the underlying code has changed in the past years and the notepad code itself was significantly modified in mid 2023, without being integrated into Cubase 13.

Hello @JRoeper,

Thanks for the quick analysis.
Unfortunately I can’t give any more details as I wasn’t paying much attention to what was happening. I thought a restart would fix it…
It was only after the fourth crash that I became more attentive and thought I’d report it as a precaution. Today I worked with Cubase 14 for 5 hours straight without a single problem. But I’m always offline while I’m working. This has been my best experience.

I’ve also experienced crashes that may be related to the Track level Notepad.

In my case, I had mapped expanding / hiding it in the inspector to a MIDI Remote and pressing the mapped hardware button.

There’s a chance that it was related to showing/hiding in fast succession, that contributed to the crash (some weird racing condition?). I had already submitted the crash reports via the automatic method on Cubase startup, but here they are again:

Thank you @Nico5 for using the automatic upload, for providing your dumps and the additional information. I had a look at one of your dumps. It’s the same crash, triggered in a different way. Herbert was using the mouse to switch tracks. You used a MIDI remote to toggle the notepad visibility. I hope that it helps us to reproduce the problem. Thank you

With the additional info from @Nico5 we were able to reproduce the crash. Shouldn’t be hard to fix. We’re working on it. Thanks.
