Cubase 14 - changing note pitch in score editor with midi

Hi, is it possible to change the pitch of a note in the score editor via midi? This was very easy to do in Cubase 13 but I can’t find a way of doing this in 14…
Thanks

Hi,

There is no MIDI Input in the Score Editor in Cubase 14. But you can do so in the Key Editor.

Thanks, glad it’s not gone completely! I tried to do this in the Key Editor but it seems to only allow pitch change by midi if I drag the pitch up and down with the mouse first…

Having a read about this it looks like this is expected behaviour for Cubase 14, which is a shame as is a deal breaker for me…Will need to revert to Cubase 13 until this is changed.

Hi,

You can enable the MIDI Input, select the note and play the new one on the MIDI keyboard. That’s it. The same, as it was in Cubase 13.

Thanks Martin, I was looking for the ‘Midi Input’ button that I’d normally use in Cubase 13 to do this but couldnt find it. Doesnt seem to work for me otherwise.

Hi,

Here it is in the Key Editor:

Excellent, thanks, I had to add that icon in the toolbar. In my opinion its not as useful as having in the Score Editor but at least it hasnt gone completely.
Thanks again

Hi!
Those symbols you show does not exist in key editor. The first one though exists in score editor.
My version is 14.0.20. Are they hidden some where?

Hi and welcome to the forum,

You are right. This if why did I write this:

Can you please explain how it’s done in key editor? I can’t get my midi keyboard working in the key editor nor I find those symbols either. Where do I find the toolbar?

Hi,

Right-click on the toolbar (this is, where all the tools sit), enable the Step/MIDI Input option. If it has been enabled already, you have to remove some other stuff or increase the window width.

Found it.
Thanks!

Hi! It does not work as expected. The “Midi” symbol is activated. Im trying to use my Midi master keyboard like in earlier versions of Cubase. “All MIDI Inputs” and “Any Input” is activated. I’ve read the manual but can’t find any useful information. No steps forward nor change in pitch. I just want it to work the same way it did in version 12. Play the correct pitch for a note and step forward to next. To me this was one of the best functions with the Score part. I’m stuck!

Hi,

There is no MIDI Input to correct the Notes in the Score Editor. There is only the Step Input to insert new notes in the Score Editor.

You can see the MIDI Input in the Key Editor.

Yes, those symbols are there as in your pictures.

Hi,

The orange one (in the Key Editor only), with the MIDI symbol, allows you to replace/correct/change existing notes. As this is not available in Score Editor, you cannot replace/correct/change an existing note within the Score Editor. This option was available in the old Score Editor (Cubase 13 and older), and it’s not available in the current Score Editor (Cubase 14.0.20).

Therefore, you have to use Key Editor for this task.

Yes, I’m aware of that. But the key-editor does not work. I mark a note with my mouse an nothing happens when I press a key at the keyboard. No pitch change, no step forward to next note. The same note is still market. I hope the function with pitch editing in Score Layout will come back soon. But at the moment I’m sattled with solving this problem.

Hi,

Would you mind sharing a screenshot, please?

Not at all :slightly_smiling_face:
