I never really got the chord pads workflow, it also could be that I haven’t understood the right way to work with them as a songwriter producer, but here are my views :
-
integrate chord tracks and pads to function together as songwriting tools, they do not currently link, they should be able to swap chords both ways and send to piano roll and back, as well as transpose the whole chord track or pads which is currently not possible
-
workflow 1: pick a song key, get a selection of possible chords, start to populate chord pads, then to chord track, then work out chords or patterns to send to tracks
-
workflow 2: populate chord pads, first one sent to chord track starts to narrow down other choices, few chords in and song key worked out, populate midi tracks
-
workflow 3: record audio eg guitar to some tracks, analyse chords and populate chord track and chord pads to then implement workflow 1 or 2 for midi tracks
With all this it’s important to remember not everyone is Jacob Collier so good to keep tools helpful to those who do not master music theory. Many of us will have a good ear and know what we like to hear, Cubase should guide us through options like the probable chords list but make it integrated with pads and track so we can build our songs more easily.
