Cubase 14 Drum Machine does not save samples

hi skijumptoes, yes prior to doing anything with the drum track and samples projects load and save as before without issue, and the names are just simple kick, snare, ect…

You’re not leaving the pool window open between projects are you? if you leave it open it will show the pool for the existing project you had open.

You need to close and open it, or open a new instance which will be linked to project you loaded up.

hi skijumptoes
no actually for the sake of testing, I am only opening the pool to view any changes and then immediately closing it…

Ok an update from my personal experience, its all working, dont ask me why, but 1) if I drag in samples to the drum machine, immediately in the current project a new area is created in the pool called plugins and in there are all the drum samples, still pointing to their original locations but listed in the pool, thats new, then 2) if I do the backup project, then in the new project I open the pool and again the samples are listed but now consolidated to the new backup folder of the new project. Why this is all working is a mystery, but I will take it as a win for now…

also as others have posted earlier the “prepare archive” option in the pool is also working and moves my samples prior to and without the backup project step…

I had another problem with drum machine. I routed the sounds to outputs but it’s not letting me render it. It leaves the tracks without any audio files, rendering…nothing. So, I ended up exporting the drums. Very annoying. Something else I don’t like at all is that it’s not compatible with groove agent. I can’t just drag a sample from drum machine to groove agent.

I don’t have this issue. Have you updated to 14.0.20 already?

Yes, that would be nice. You can drag samples from Groove Agent to Drum Machine, though.

Maybe this helps for some workflows. You can create a macro like this:

Sampler Track works great for me.

Steinberg needs to change their Beta strategy.

I don’t think they are recruiting the correct testers for the features they are implementing.

Cubase should either:

  1. Copy any Audio File added to Drum Track into the Project Audio Folder [automatically, by default], or
  2. Ask the user what they would like to do: Link to or Copy the Audio Files

I absolutely second this one

I didn’t realize the Drum Machine was in beta. This was not explained when I purchased Cubase 14 pro. I guess I will have to pretend the Drum Machine doesn’t exist . I don’t want to use something that doesn’t work. I’m having a hard enough time learning Cubase as a whole.

Haha, relax, it is not a beta version. There is definetly room for improvements (I support these feature requests) but Drum Machine is far from being a beta version.

Don’t worry - know the hurdles and keep in mind the workarounds for the time being (like this one Cubase 14 Drum Machine does not save samples - #52 by Trensharo ) and you are good to go!

Cool! Thank you! @Reco29

I am glad I checked this thread!

I wrote a python script a while back to hunt down samples used in a kit and copy them to the project folder, but this still required me to manually update the sample links in my project, which had the annoying side effect of replacing any changes I had made to pad layers (pitch, pan, etc.).

But Media > Prepare Archive collects the samples and updates the pads without messing anything up. I agree with others that the Drum Machine should have an option like this built-in, but this definitely works for me.

Thanks!

The DrumMachine is not in beta. @Trensharo simply has a feature-request. Unfortunately in their wording they confused “what I prefer” with “how it must be”.

Thanks! I’m new to the Cubase family, so I may be slightly naive. I just learned how to save a drum machine preset if I edit it the way I want. One needs to save it as “track preset”. This is completely esoteric, and I had to learn this by watching an irritating video that mentioned it in passing.

I was happy too early. After updating 14.0.30, 14.0.31, drum samples are not saved in the pool again. :frowning:

I don’t know what is happening on your side but over here everything works as expected.

Thanks for the info. I’ll look into this.
