Cubase 14 Drum Machine - Drum Pad Layer Playback Styles

Hi all!

Longtime lurker and user, first time poster. Is there a way to have the layers in the new Drum Machine playback as “Random Exclusive”, “Round Robin”, “Layer” or “Velocity” similar to how you can set it in Groove Agent?

Really love the new Drum Machine UI but having these different layer-playback options is is so essential to my productions.

Can’t answer this, as, while teaching myself to use Drum Maschine, I came to the same question. So, if there isn’t an similar option I would strongly support the wish to implement it in a upcoming version!

So here’s what I’m coming up with while messing about. For each layer, there’s a “level” and a “Vel” control. “Vel” controls how much influence Velocity has over “Level”. At 0, you get the programmed level (amplifier, not Pad). At 100, it is very velocity sensitive. So, I set a low “Vel” and a lower level for layer 2 and put “Tamborine Soft” in the slot. I put “Tamborine Hard” in Slot 1, and set it with a much higher level and high “Vel”. With less velocity, you get mostly Layer 2. With increasingly higher velocities, Layer 1 eventually (and smoothly) bypasses Layer 2. And you can do this with additional layers, just with a bunch of fussing with “Level” and “Vel”

While it would be nice to have round robin, etc. capabilities in the new Drum Machine plugin in Cubase 14, I suspect Steinberg has intentionally left out these features both to keep Drum Machine simple and easy to use and to not cannibalize sales of Groove Agent. Otherwise, for a lot of people Drum Machine would be all they need.
