Cubase 14 Elements not opening

Cubase 14 Elements trial version will not open , continually scaning for VST 3 Plugins ,Thank you in advance.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

Can you add a little bit about your computer setup (Windows or Mac, etc.)?
Do you already have VST3 plug-ins installed, perhaps from other software?

Thanks , 14 finnally opened but afraid its to confusing for an old guy , 75. Would like to continue working with Cubase 5 ,but i inadvertently changed the plugin path ,in plugin manager then closed the program , on the start up screen it seems like its scanning the whole C drive then just stops .Fresh install does not help just does the same thing.

Any help would be apprectated .

Just to be clear, is it Cubase 5 that you are having the issue with?

Yes ,Cubase 5

Windows or Mac?

Fresh install will still leave preferences intact unless you delete them manually.

Try to hold down Ctrl Shift Alt when you start Cubase (5)…..it should give you a safe start dialogue where you can reset preferences which will reset your plugin paths to default.

@rockinpop07 perhaps you might change the title of this post to reflect the version you are having the issue with (5, not 14)?

I don’t think the option of Safe Mode (Ctrl Shift Alt) existed in Cubase 5, which is now almost 17 years old and long out of support.

If you want to have Cubase 5 start completely fresh with a clean configuration as if it had been just installed, you will have to make sure Cubase is not running (perhaps reboot), then hold down the Windows key and press “R”, type in

%APPDATA%\Steinberg

and click OK. This should open the folder that contains, among other things, the preferences folder for each version of Cubase you have installed. I would suggest temporarily renaming any folder in this location that starts with “Cubase”.

You should then be able to restart Cubase 5 with a new set of preferences. Note however that all settings and customisations will be gone, and things will have to be set up from scratch again.

Cubase 5 up and running , :slightly_smiling_face: resetting preferences did it ,

Thank You Gentelmen for your help.
