Cubase 14 - Generic Remote - Glitch in choosing Action/Value commands

Cubase 14 Pro, Windows 11 - There seems to be a weird glitch when choosing a command within Generic Remote.

Instead of the desired chosen command, another random command from within the list gets selected instead. Huh?

Can anyone confirm this?

I opened a pretty busy generic remote and I don’t see the glitch described. The selection is smooth.

EDIT: After @Teo submitted screen capture in next post, I was able to reproduce the issue.

More detail written in separate post below.

I don’t think I’ve experienced a random command problem, that couldn’t be explained by configuration errors.

And that’s in the context of me running a reasonably ambitious set up combining the MIDI Remote (some direct, and some via MIDI Loopback), the Generic Remote with 4 hardware controllers directly USB connected plus one hardware controller connected via a 5 PIN MIDI (and going through another USB MIDI port).

(Win10, Cubase 14 Pro)

Thanks for your replies guys. Hmmm this is really strange.

I had no problems selecting the commands I wanted back in version 13.
But this time in 14, it just doesn’t seem to work as expected. Everytime I select a desired Value/Action, another random Value/Action gets selected instead.

Can anyone from Steinberg reproduce this glitch?

If it helps, I’m running 3 screens on Nvidia GPU.

Now that you submitted a screen capture, I was able to reproduce the problem. (Win10 Cubase 14.0.5)

It seems to be some specific parts of the Command hierarchy are not working (while others seem fine).

Just a few examples (I didn’t test every possible command):

Not working:

Command > Add Track
Command > MIDI
Command > MIDI Remote
Command > Arranger

Working:

Command > Channel Settings
Command > Analyze

Not sure, if it’s somewhat related, but in addition, I’m experiencing a big GUI display anomaly in the dropdown menu, when choosing the Command hierarchy and then clicking on the Channel/Category dropdown menu:

When choosing another Device section like for example Mixer, things look as expected:

The GUI problem for the dropdown menu also exists in the Value/Action level in several other hierarchies:

Ahh okay. So there is indeed a glitch with the Generic Remote hierarchy in Cubase 14.

I have a feeling they forgot to update the Generic Remote department with all the new features in 14. I still really need Generic Remote as I’m using TouchOSC with a touchscreen (with multiple tabs within it).

Not too crazy about Midi Remote as of yet.

Steinberg! Need some help here!

Anyway, thanks for confirming. Hope something gets done about this.

I’m sure there are still quite a lot of users out there who still need Generic Remote.

I use TouchOSC for most tasks. It’s just great. I have not stepped up to Cubase 14. I’m still running 13 & Nuendo 13. I hope if there are any bugs, they can solve it pretty quickly. Losing that functionality would force me to relearn where all my favorite menu items are hidden.

Yeah man, I hear you buddy.
Luckily I’ve still kept v13, so if I need to go back and make any Generic Remote changes, I can still do so with v13.

I’m hoping Steinberg work out a way to convert the Generic Remote xml. files into something the new MIDI Remote can understand. It would save me a truck load of work.

Precisely! That would help a great deal.

But I still see that Midi Remote can still cause crashes. Generic Remote is low-tech, but that’s precisely why it’s much more reliable.

Can we get some acknowledgement from Steinberg that this is an issue?

I just developed a workarround where I can create an entry in the GR in Cubase 13 and then export the GR and then import it into C14. Although this does not help with commands that have been added to C14 like the ‘view insert slot x for selected track’ which is the one I most wanted to use.

Yeah, an acknowledgment from Steinberg on this issue would be appreciated.

While I understand that Generic Remote is a legacy thing that Steinberg plans to discontinue, I sure still hope that they will update this department accordingly with new stuff they add to each Cubase update.

Midi Remote is still finicky, and mostly only caters to limited numbers of midi controllers on the market. Quite a few of us users do not use these products, but instead have custom touchscreen software to control Cubase.

I’d like to see Midi Remote able to conveniently serve TouchOSC (or similar) users, perhaps by even being able to actually import .tosc formats and Generic Remote .xml formats directly into Midi Remote, and everything gets translated into its visual framework.

If this is a lot to ask of Midi Remote, then I would say Steinberg should at least continue to update Generic Remote’s command heirarchy list. That’s only fair.

I think it’s been acknowledged in Cubase 14.0.10
