Cubase 14 GUI design regressions

Same here. Plus, on my i9 12900/Asus AMD 7900 XTX, machine, C12 can play videos C13/C14 can’t ( not without degrading video performance by forcing it to use Intel Graphics).
As a rank amateur, there are 2 changes that I think are actual improvements:

  1. Proper Windows windows. I have a very wide screen, so menus in windows is a blessing;
  2. The new Add Instrument dialogue.

That first one is the only reason I’ve persevered with C13/14.

Back to basics.

As a note, I know that they are doing a good job here, as always the users who use the software on a daily basis, but what bothers me the most is the fact that no one in charge appears and says something about it, whether good or bad. I also don’t think it’s fair that some members here are wasting their surely valuable time trying to improve something that will fall on deaf ears. Come on Steinberg, speak out!!

I don’t think our opinions fall in deaf ears. But I can’t see devs and CEOs coming here to have handbags with Cubase users.

Mr. Zimmer himself might show up soon and give a big thumbs up.

By the way, I might try recreating other parts of the interface if there is interest for it. It takes quite a long time to do, so I don’t want to bother if no one cares.

I hope not, but it would be great to know that at least some kind of result can be reached, or that Steiny is “working” to really improve the user interface.

I would set the meter background to absolute black, like in V12

I think we will most definitely see changes (I hope for the best) in the next version.

I think this looks great. Good job.

Steinberg needs to upgrade to vector based resizable graphics if possible so that we can have this level of clarity in the GUI.

I believe you mentioned one of the big underlying issue: Cubase is more and more trying to appease to the Ableton Live crowd, and thus trying to morph Cubase in to a Live wannabe (you can even see that on the new features list any time a new version arrives, more and more loop based stuff, and now the new LFO, etc), so not only a poor design language but a broader move altogether.

That is nonsense, sorry. If you have a fully functional piece of software, you eventually need just to adress some specifics, you don’t need to change just for changes’s sake. There’s no unwritten law that obliges a developer to change all the gui to underline a version change.

Like this?

I also slightly changed the look of the dark buttons (gradients) to make them pop a little. It’s tricky to make darker buttons pop while still keeping them dark enough so that the white text on them isn’t drowned.

Also, I’m wondering if I should separate the buttons (A, B, etc.) with something other than a (almost) black line. I feel like the buttons are not separated enough.

Is this too much separation?

Terrific work! It’s instantly easier to see, at a glance. I believe it’s a ton of work, but would love to see you rework the Mixconsole!!!:sweat_smile:

Which part of the Mixconsole do you think needs the most improvement?

Merry Christmas.

Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas - and the constructive criticism.
While I am in the support department, I can at least mention that this topic has been forwarded to our GUI team for their attention.

It is always difficult to find the right middle ground that pleases most. We received many comments on the GUI changes that came with Cubase 13 and established a new internal structure to address those. Compared to Cubase 13, Cubase 14 has the better GUI (just in my humble opinion) and we will continue working on it.
However, this is not an easy task and requires a great deal of consideration. It’s not just about improving certain parts of the UI, it’s also about staying consistent.
