Cubase 14 hangs on exit and gets stuck at "All MIDI Inputs" on restart (Windows 11)

Subject: Cubase 14 hangs on exit and gets stuck at “All MIDI Inputs” on restart (Windows 11)

System Specs:

  • OS: Windows 11

  • DAW: Cubase 14.0.32

  • Interface: RME Babyface / Midas M32 (based on user profile)

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090

Issue Description:

  1. Cubase 14 starts normally after a fresh system boot.

  2. However, after closing Cubase, the process (Cubase.exe) remains active in the Task Manager and does not terminate.

  3. If I manually kill the process and try to restart Cubase, it gets stuck indefinitely at the “All MIDI Inputs” loading stage.

  4. I have attached the generated freezedump.dmp file for analysis.

Steps Taken:

  • I have tried removing PowerToys, but the issue persists.

  • The only way to restart Cubase properly is a full system reboot, as the process often remains hung in the background.

Could you please analyze the attached dump file and advise on a permanent fix? I suspect a conflict between the MIDI driver and the

Cubase 14.0.32 64bit 2026.3.6 17.20.04.254-freezedump.dmp (1.6 MB)

Cubase 14 shutdown process.

There is an issue at the OS level. For details, please take a look here: https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us/articles/33769681116690-Cubase-Nuendo-stuck-on-Initializing-All-MIDI-Inputs

However, your Cubase installation is outdated. We always recommend keeping the software up-to-date. The latest update is 14.0.41.

Thank you for the information regarding the OS-level issue and the link. I’ve noticed that my Cubase version is indeed outdated. I will proceed with the update to v14.0.41 immediately and check the MIDI input initialization as guided. I appreciate your detailed support.

What MIDI devices do you have connected? Are you using any inMusic drivers (m-audio, AKAI, RANE, etc.?)

Those drivers hang the service, resulting in what you are seeing. Most of those devices work perfectly well with our in-box drivers.
