Cubase 14 is out now. When will Nuendo 14 be here?

I think if you do the maths, we will find that the price of maintaining both programs, would likely be less than half of what it was then, under the old pricing system.

Not sure what you mean by ā€œold pricing systemā€.

Thank you so much for the update, Timo.
I hope Nuendo 14 will have an additional mute function on the export queue something like the picture I have attached. Normally the clients want various version besides the format, with the mute option we can have various version and formats to export using the Export queue tab.
Thank you,
Raj

Iā€™m not against having that option. Having said that though my strong conviction is that it is best to deal with this in the project window, within the timeline*. By for example stringing out different versions you can mute regions which gives visual feedback, plus adjust cycle marker names, and that way itā€™s fully clear exactly what was muted for specific versions and it follows naming and is fully recallable. I think that unless we get the ability to save the batch exports (as selections of tracks and settings) it would be easy to be in a situation where there are notes and we canā€™t quickly see exactly what was muted for version X (two weeks later or whatever).

*I suppose if there are tempo changes or a need to maintain timecode it wonā€™t workā€¦

I would not mind this at all.

It would potentially also mean that there would be no imperative for a project save dialog for lesser selected options.

I think itā€™s just that all the functions for the new Cubase are programmed - and then released immediately. The missing difference to Nuendo is programmed afterwards, not necessarily in parallel. Thatā€™s why there is the delay. Conversely, Cubase users wait around 10 months until they receive some things from the last Nuendo.

Any news as to when? Early 2025 as in January 1st?

My own intuition is that Nuendo 14 will be in full force at Namm in three weeks.

I have my Namm badge and will likely head upstairs to Yamaha first. Nuendo was running in multiple areas of the Yamaha booth last year (6-7 areasā€¦interestingly, no Cubaseā€¦all systems were Nuendo) as well as Greg was at a designated Steinberg area behind the VERY noisy ballroom stage area.

Man, hope SB gets its own room again, but regardless, Yamahaā€™s areas are always first classā€¦and like I sayā€¦Iā€™m personally convinced that 2025 Namm will be the N14 drop dates.

That being said, my intuition has proven to be incorrect before

isnā€™t it always the same routine, year after year?

Cubase first, Nuendo follows a couple of months later.

Nuendo 13 was I think only a couple of weeks after cubase if I recall so it was very close. This time since Timo has already said some features needed more time and it would be ā€œnot too far into 2025ā€ looks like that could mean anything from January to March IMO. Time will tell. I certainly hope it will be in January though. It is also possible Nuendo 14 preview may be available during NAMM if they want to showcase it even without being released yet.

Itā€™s nice to get the free update within the grace period, but the upgrade pricing for existing users is more than fair too. One year of CC is over 3x the cost, I know itā€™s not the same thing, but for my work I have to use both and Nuendo offers a lot features for the money. If Steinberg goes full Adobe Sub model, thatā€™s when weā€™ll be in trouble. ProTools gets away with it, but they almost didnā€™t, and I know a few mixers and small studio guys out there working on decades old hardware just to avoid the upgrades.

It would seem unimaginable, to have to pay an ongoing subscription fee, when the current pricing is more than fair.

The difference between Yamaha and Steinberg, and competing ecosystems is, the former comprise a professional musical instruments comany, as well as the oldest media/audio software developers in existance, whereas the latter were only able to come on the scene because computing technology enabled that to be the case but they were only in the audio domain, with MIDI just as an add-on.

Happy New Year to all! Looking forward to Nuendo 14!

BTW well done on Cubase 14, Steinberg! Best release in years! Keep up the good work! Nuendo 14 is sure to be another winner! Just please donā€™t rush it! Make sure it is fully baked!

Such cynicism! Itā€™s still January 1st! Give Steinberg a chance, they did great on Cubase 14. If they screw up Nuendo 14, weā€™ll know soon enough. Iā€™m optimistic though. :sunglasses: :+1:

March should be the best time. 4 to 6 months gap is good in my opinionā€¦

I believe it was mentioned it would be released as 14.0.20. Cubase .10 came out about a month ago, so itā€™s likely closer than March!

I have a cool idea:

What if Nuendo will be released together with Cubase, using only the same features that are in Cubase, and all the special Nuendo features, delayed until XX.0.50 for example.

That way, users who want to get the new Cubase features in Nuendo right away - can get them now, and the additional Nuendo features later. And those who are not in a hurry can wait for the full version with all the features.

Apple has already done this several times, releasing iOS 18 and adding all the killer features in the next releases (iOS 18.2).

Phew. Letā€™s hope that Steinberg does not follow Apple in its upgrade and compatibility policy. :stuck_out_tongue:
