Cubase 14 - Modulator MIDI out to Ext. Inst

Unable to route modulator to External Instrument. I am able to trigger MIDI note out with controller keyboard in the normal fashion.

Select - MIDI Channel - All CC - CC11

Confirmed. Same here with both external instruments and using Retrologue.

Received the same error. But then I was able to get it to work if I use retrologue as a RACK vs TRACK instrument.

Are Modulators confirmed anywhere to be working with External Instrument?

I was confirming that I have the same problem as you. Not confirming that they work. They most certainly don’t work with external instruments and when I tried to use MIDI CC with Retrologue, that didn’t work either.

Just a heads up, I’ve been able to implement this using Blue Cat Remote Control plugin to remotely modulate external hardware CC.

  • Create your external instrument track.
  • Add Remote Control Plugin as an Insert
  • Set the input on the instrument track to be the remote control plugin
  • Configure the plugin to send midi CC on a ‘knob’ control, on the correct MIDI channel for your hardware
  • Configure the modulator to control the insert plugin, selecting the correct control that you configured earlier.

It’s not clean, but I’ve got LFO controlled filter sweeps of my Hydrasynth going right now using the modulator using this method. The plugin is relatively cheap and there’s a demo on Blue Cat’s website to try it out first.

Hopefully Steinberg will be fixing this in future releases.

Good luck!

Confirmed working, fair play.
Let’s hope Steinberg can get this feature up and running natively pretty soon

Same Error here.
I tried with my Minilogue and assigned Midi CC 43 (Cutoff) for testing. No luck. Same CC with the MIDI Insert Auto LFO still works fine though. So this is an issue and will hopefully be fixed, as the new modulators are much better than the old MIDI insert thingies.

BTW, that Blue Cat plugin looks pretty cool. 50€ though and I only have that one synth can can be controlled in that way.

The modulators are nice. They need work for both incoming and outgoing control though.
Using them internally on vsti’s and fx all seems to be working fine for me.

I just want to bump this thread because using these modulators on external instruments is an absolute MUST.

Please Steinberg implement this in a future update.
