Cubase 14 & NI Kontact 8

Hi Folks,
Just a quickie. Are there any known issues with Kontact 8 and Cubase. I just tried loading Session Horns Pro and everything stops at various times. The actual Horn page takes about a minute to load, and quite often when recording or cutting & pasting everything stops for a minute or more, with no response from anything within Cubase.

I thought at first I had some corrupted info, but as soon as I move to an earlier version of Kontact, everything works as normal.

I am using an older version of NI Ultimate (9) I’m semi retired and the NI upgrades are out of my budget. I just keep all my Steinberg stuff up to date!

Regards

Jeff

I’m using the Kontakt 8 Player here with 14 Pro on Windows 11. I only have Session Horns (not the Pro version) but everything is playing nicely.

I think Kontakt 8 is a bit more demanding on CPU than previous versions, but if you’re just using it for the instruments (rather than the new Leap, Chords and Phrases features) and if K7 works for you then its probably worth just sticking with that version?

Hi manassas77

Thanks for your message. I have no worries about CPU, so I’m sure the problem isn’t to do with memory. I think I’ll try some more stuff with K8 & see if it affects much else. I have K5 to K8 so it’s definitely ok with K6. I checked Native access & everything is up to date. There’s a gremlin in there somewhere!
Take care

Jeff

NI are usually pretty hot on rectifying bugs, but as you say if all is up to date with NI Access then the problem seems to be elsewhere.

What about using Komplete Kontrol instead of K8 … does that throw up the same issues?

I haven’t really tried KK because it appears to be related to NI Hardware. However I have just attempted to open KK and it seems to have frozen whilst loading the vst’s etc. specifically when trying to load HALion Sonic SE. Tried it twice now, freezes in the same place.
I’m going to re install KK & try again. Nope, it’s the same!
I really only use a few things from NI these days and all seem to work with earlier Kontact players. Might be best to let sleeping dogs lie.
When I get time I might delve further into this but as I have a workaround I’m going to get on with making music rather than fighting the PC. LOL !
Thanks for your input anyway.
The post is still open if anyone else knows of a definite issue please let me know. In the meantime it’s ‘onward & upward’.
Best wishes
Jeff

Just one last point on Komplete Kontrol - I did have a KK Mk2 S61 that I moved on some time ago, but the Komplete Kontrol software isn’t tied to the hardware.

It is actually a great launchpad for the NI instruments including Massive and Massive X, with the benefit of having preview sounds. I used it in preference to Kontakt for a long time before K7 was released.

If loading KK is causing problems with Cubase then it seems that there is something amiss with your PC setup, rather than an NI issue.

As you say, get on making music with the stuff that works for you rather than disappearing down the rabbit hole of working out what isn’t working
